Chandipura virus resurgence: Insights from Indian outbreaks and the path forward.

Background: First isolated in 1965 from a case of febrile encephalopathy, the Chandipura virus (CHPV) causes sporadic cases as well as periodic outbreaks of encephalitis in parts of India. Transmitted by sandflies and mosquitoes, CHPV infection has high mortality within 48 h of hospitalization, with children bearing the brunt of the illness. The virus garnered global attention in the middle of 2024 as India witnessed its largest outbreak in the last two decades.

Evaluation of Serological Tests for the Diagnosis of Syphilis.

Background Syphilis remains a significant public health concern in India. Ensuring the accuracy of diagnostic tests is crucial for effectively managing this disease. Objectives This study aims to assess the detectability of syphilis using commercially available non-treponemal and treponemal tests due to observed discrepancies in test results, which can lead to confusion and anxiety among healthcare providers and patients.

Presence of Resistant DEC Strains in a Tertiary Healthcare Center in North East India in Children under 18 Years.

 Diarrheal illness such as diarrheagenic (DEC), apart from rotavirus, is a common etiological agent known to cause moderate-to-severe diarrhea in low-income countries where unregulated use of antibiotics is rampant, giving rise to multidrug resistant (MDR) strains. This study is an earnest effort in reflecting the resistance pattern in such isolates.  It is a hospital-based cross-sectional study conducted over a period of 1 year (January to December, 2015).

A study on viral haemorrhagic fever due to dengue, chikungunya and Crimean Congo haemorrhagic fever virus among patients attending tertiary care hospital in North East India.

Purpose: The present study was undertaken with the objective to study the common etiology of Viral Haemorrhagic Fever (VHF) among patients attending tertiary health care centre in NE India and also to study the clinico-demographic profile of such patients. The agents of VHF included in the study were dengue, chikungunya and Crimean Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus. The inclusion of CCHF was based on evidence of seroprevalence in livestock (bovine, sheep and goat) in various North Eastern states.
