Diabetic neuropathy is a heterogeneous disease with diverse pathology. Recognition of the clinical homolog of these pathologic processes is necessary in achieving appropriate intervention. Treatment should be individualized so the particular manifestation and underlying pathogenesis of each patient's clinical presentation are considered.
