Article Synopsis
  • - Integrated nutrient management and crop rotation can boost crop yield and improve soil quality by using a mix of dry bio-slurry and nitrogen fertilizers in farming systems.
  • - A study over three years tested different combinations of bio-slurry and nitrogen, revealing that 25% dry bio-slurry with 75% nitrogen fertilizer produced the highest yield for potatoes and wheat.
  • - The best combination also offered significant economic benefits, with a net profit of 2889.2 US$, suggesting this method should be promoted in similar agricultural settings.

Ethiopia has a huge potential to increase the production and productivity of potato ( L) mainly in north-western regions where current potato yields are less than 10 t ha. Soil fertility and disease are the major yield-limiting factors of potato in this part of the country. Three-year's on-farm research was conducted to get the optimum economic levels of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) nutrients for the major potato-growing areas of north-western Ethiopia.
