Background: The integration of anaerobic digestion into bio-based industries can create synergies that help render anaerobic digestion self-sustaining. Two-stage digesters with separate acidification stages allow for the production of green hydrogen and short-chain fatty acids, which are promising industrial products. A 60-year-old Caucasian female with sero-positive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was evaluated as a potential kidney donor for her brother-in-law with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) secondary to c-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (c-ANCA) associated vasculitis (AAV) and membranous nephropathy (MN). With little to no data supporting or contradicting this unique scenario, in addition to the varying viewpoints expressed by the different specialists, our multidisciplinary transplant committee encountered a difficult decision of whether to approve a candidate with RA for a living kidney donation or not. As a result, we carried out a careful literature review addressing aspects of recipients' outcomes following kidney transplants from a living donor with RA, especially when the recipient has AAV, living donor's short- and long-term outcomes post kidney donation, renal disease in AAV and RA, and maintenance of disease remission.

 Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided chemoablation with ethanol lavage, followed by infusion with paclitaxel, has been found to be effective for treatment of mucinous pancreatic cysts. However, there are notable adverse events (AEs) associated with ethanol and its undesirable inflammatory effects on local tissue and vessels. The recent ChARM trial demonstrated that removing ethanol from the cyst ablation process resulted in equivalent efficacy while significantly reducing associated AEs.

In this work, liquid and solid fractions of grass biomass were used as co-substrates for anaerobic co-digestion of sewage sludge. The input of grass biomass was increased gradually, and the underlying methanogenic microbiome was assessed by means of microscopy-based cell counting and full-length 16S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing, proving for the first time the suitability of nanopore-based portable sequencers as a monitoring tool for anaerobic digestion systems. In both cases co-fermentation resulted in an increased number of bacteria and methanogenic archaea.
