Objectives: We asked whether high performance of an Immunochromatographic-test (ICT) could enable accurate, rapid diagnosis/treatment, establishing new, improved care-paradigms at point-of-care and clinical laboratory.

Toxoplasmosis is a ubiquitous parasitic infection caused by Toxoplasma gondii (Tg). In immunocompetent people, the infection may be asymptomatic with the induction of an immune response that may prevent reinfection or transmission to the fetus in immune pregnant woman. In immunocompromised persons or seronegative pregnant woman with a primary infection during pregnancy, the infection may result in the loss of life, sight, cognition, and motor function in the immune-compromised person or immunologically immature fetus.

Identification of individuals with acute HIV infection (AHI) and rapid initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) are priorities for HIV elimination efforts. Fourth- and fifth-generation HIV-1/HIV-2 antigen (Ag)/antibody (Ab) combination assays can quickly identify patients with AHI, but false-positive results can occur. As the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic evolves, the development of immunoassays to help determine exposure and potentially predict immunity has become a pressing priority. In this report we present the performance of the EUROIMMUN enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for semi-quantitative detection of IgA and IgG antibodies in serum and plasma samples using recombinant S1 domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein as antigen. Specimens from patients, with and without COVID-19 infection, were tested at the University of Chicago Clinical Microbiology and Immunology Laboratory.
