Article Synopsis
  • Trichinellosis, a common parasitic disease, necessitates research into new treatments and the immune response, particularly involving myrrh extract and myrrh-based silver nanoparticles, which have been previously underexplored.
  • The study tested the effectiveness of biosynthesized silver nanoparticles, myrrh extract, and albendazole on infected mice, analyzing histopathological changes and immune markers after three days of treatment post-infection.
  • Results indicated a significant decrease in adult worm counts across all treatment groups, with the silver nanoparticles achieving an 88.64% mortality rate in adult worms, alongside notable intestinal alterations found in infected untreated mice.

Wuchereria bancrofti, Dirofilaria immitis, and Dirofilaria repens are filarial nematodes transmitted by mosquitoes belonging to Culex, Aedes, and Anopheles genera. Screening by vector dissection is a tiresome technique. We aimed to screen filarial parasites in their vectors by single and multiplex PCR and evaluate the usefulness of multiplex PCR as a rapid xenomonitoring and simultaneous differentiation tool, in area where 3 filarial parasites are coexisting.
