Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess whether serum levels of myeloperoxidase and lactate dehydrogenase can serve as effective tumor markers in chronic myeloid leukemia patients after a year of treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
  • - Conducted at Mustansiriyah University in Iraq, it involved 88 patients divided into groups based on their molecular response and included healthy controls; findings showed elevated levels of both markers in the patient groups compared to controls.
  • - The results indicated significant oxidative stress in the patients, with myeloperoxidase levels differing significantly between the two patient groups, although lactate dehydrogenase levels did not show a significant difference.

One of the significant aromatic plants applied in food and pharma is cumin. Despite its massive trading in Egypt, there are no comprehensive reports on cumin landraces profile screening. This study aimed to investigate the variation in seeds' physical and biochemical profiles and genetic diversity as well as assess the efficiency of seeds' germination under salinity stress.

Background And Aims: Mastectomy, a common intervention for breast cancer, has substantial implications for a woman's quality of life (QoL). However, the literature on QoL outcomes following mastectomy-with or without breast reconstruction (BR) is scant. This study aims to assess and compare the QoL among Iraqi women post-mastectomy, examining the impacts of undergoing BR.

Background: Chemotherapy resistance is caused by a multiplicity of reasons; some of which can be avoided and others that are beyond the scope of current treatment methods. Since chemotherapy is administered under the supervision of health personnel, the role of oncologists cannot be undermined, and yet none is known about their knowledge and perspective. This research is the first-ever study aiming to develop a valid and reliable tool to determine oncologists' knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) toward chemotherapy resistance.

The present investigation was conducted to evaluate the effect of penconazole (PEN) fungicide on early embryogenesis of white mice. In the first experiment, 48 pregnant females were divided into different groups; the first group is control (G1). The second group (G2) was treated daily with PEN (30-, 20-, 10-, 5-mg/kg BW).

Background: Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) have been shown to alleviate the symptoms of metabolic disorders, such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and insulin resistance. Several putative mechanisms by which n-3 PUFA elicit beneficial health effects have been proposed; however, there is still a shortage of knowledge on the proteins and pathways that are regulated by n-3 PUFA.

Methods: Using two dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis, we investigated the effects of diets high or low in n-3 PUFA on hepatic proteomic profile of C57BL/6 mice.

Styrene monooxygenase (SMO) catalyzes the first step of styrene degradation, and also serves as an important enzyme for the synthesis of enantiopure epoxides. To enhance its activity, molecular docking of styrene was performed based on the X-ray crystal structure of the oxygenase subunit of SMO to identify three amino acid residues (Tyr73, His76 and Ser96) being adjacent to the phenyl ring of styrene. Variants at those positions were constructed and their enzymatic activities were analyzed.
