Terrorism using radiological dirty bombs or improvised nuclear devices is recognized as a major threat to both public health and national security. In the event of a radiological or nuclear disaster, rapid and accurate biodosimetry of thousands of potentially affected individuals will be essential for effective medical management to occur. Currently, health care providers lack an accurate, high-throughput biodosimetric assay which is suitable for the triage of large numbers of radiation injury victims.

However, when bortezomib is given continuously, CD4(+) T cell-mediated gastrointestinal tract damage increases GVHD mortality. To investigate the protective effects of bortezomib on other organs, we used a CD8-dependent acute GVHD (aGVHD) model of C3H.

We and others have previously demonstrated that bortezomib, a proteasome inhibitor, can prevent but not treat acute GVHD in mice. To assess the effects of bortezomib on cGVHD, a mouse minor histocompatibility antigen-mismatched strain combination was used to mimic clinical cGVHD sclerodermatous pathogenesis and phenotype.

This study aimed to investigate whether presence and severity of breast artery calcification (BAC) on mammograms is associated with computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) finding such as coronary artery calcium (CAC) score and the severity of coronary artery stenosis.
Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 150 women aged >40 years who were referred for CTCA.
This phase II study evaluated the safety and efficacy of lenalidomide in combination with rituximab in patients with relapsed/refractory, indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Patients were treated with daily lenalidomide in 28-d cycles and weekly rituximab for 4 weeks. Lenalidomide was continued until progression or unacceptable toxicity.

This work presents a method to find the exact solutions for the free vibration analysis of a delaminated beam based on the Timoshenko type with different boundary conditions. The solutions are obtained by the method of Lagrange multipliers in which the free vibration problem is posed as a constrained variational problem. The Legendre orthogonal polynomials are used as the beam eigenfunctions.

The natural history of VUR seems to be different between prenatal or postnatal forms of the disease. We compared the natural history and outcome of vesicoureteral reflux in infants less than one year old diagnosed prenatally or postnatally.

In order to diagnose VUR, we required invasive testing and exposure of the neonate to radiation. The concentrations of a matrix metalloproteinase, MMP9, and its inhibitor TIMP1, were analyzed in hydronephrotic newborns with VUR and were compared to those without reflux.

The ABC family of membrane transporters is proposed, albeit with controversy, to be involved in this process. The present study aims to investigate the mRNA expression profile of several genes of this family, including ABCA2, ABCA3, ABCB1/MDR1, MRP1/ABCC1, MRP3/ABCC3, ABCG2/BCRP, and the intracellular transporter MVP/LRP, in childhood ALL, and to evaluate their association with response to therapy.

The feasibility of T-cell expansion, safety of aATC infusions, cytotoxic immune responses and trafficking of aATC were evaluated. Three NHL patients received 15 infusions of 5 × 10(9) aATC (three infusions/week for 3 weeks and one infusion/week for 6 weeks) between days 1 and 65 after SCT with IL-2.

Identifying agents that can suppress GVHD yet not compromise graft-vs-tumor (GVT) effects remains a paramount goal in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).

The calculations were performed using two different levels of theory including mPW2PLYP and DFT-B3LYP. The 6-311++G(d,p) basis set was used for C, H, O and N and the standard relativistic effective core pseudo potential LANL2DZ basis set was used for Se atom.

The calculations were performed using two expensive correlated levels of theory including MP2/6-311++G(3df,3pd) and CCSD/6-311++G(d,p) in both gas and aqueous phases. The new continuum solvation model, SMD, based on the quantum mechanical charge density of a solute molecule interacting with a continuum description of the solvent, used to account the solvent effects.

Background: In our competing educational world, students spend a considerable part of their daily life, studying at library furniture. Not surprisingly, due to lack of proper anthropometric databases, these products have typically been ill fitted for the intended user populations.
Objective: To verify the optimum anthropometric match of library furniture within an academic environment, through a combined qualitative and quantitative approach.
