A 17-year-old female was transferred to our hospital due to high fever, general fatigue, and dim eyesight. Three weeks before, she had used cosmetic colored contact lenses and then suffered from bloodshot eyes associated with dim eyesight. Intermittent fever and general fatigue were followed by eye symptoms.

A case of situs inversus totalis with hemosuccus pancreaticus due to intrapancreatic pseudocyst perforation of the common hepatic artery treated with a vascular stent graft.

Hemosuccus pancreaticus (HP) is characterized by gastrointestinal bleeding from the papilla of Vater via the pancreatic duct. In this report, we describe a case of HP due to arterial perforation in a pancreatic pseudocyst and discuss the computed tomography (CT) findings and efficacy of stent graft placement. A 64-year-old man with a history of heavy alcohol use, situs inversus totalis, and total gastrectomy was hospitalized with hematochezia.

Intraoperative Telestration System in Endoscopic Transsphenoidal Surgery Contributes to Improved Surgical Safety and Efficient Surgical Education.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a "telestration" system in which the mentor annotates the view of the surgical field, for endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery (ETS).

Methods: The use of telestration was evaluated for sellar floor-opening during ETS and for a task performed using ETS simulation training. During ETS, the mentor outlined the opening area of the sella turcica on the monitor and then the trainee surgeon opened the sella, either with the telestration displayed (telestration (+) group, n = 8) or without (telestration (-) group, n = 7).

Development of an Artificial Intelligence Diagnostic System Using Linked Color Imaging for Barrett's Esophagus.

Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma cases are increasing as gastroesophageal reflux disease increases. Using artificial intelligence (AI) and linked color imaging (LCI), our aim was to establish a method of diagnosis for short-segment Barrett's esophagus (SSBE). We retrospectively selected 624 consecutive patients in total at our hospital, treated between May 2017 and March 2020, who experienced an esophagogastroduodenoscopy with white light imaging (WLI) and LCI.

Risk Factors for Mucosal Redness in the Duodenal Bulb as Detected via Linked Color Imaging.

Linked color imaging (LCI) for image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE) highlights mucosal color differences. We investigated risk factors associated with mucosal redness of the duodenal bulb using LCI. Consecutive patients were retrospectively selected after their duodenal bulbs were observed via LCI.

Pterygoid Muscle Necrosis Caused by Radiation and Intra-Arterial Cisplatin Infusion Chemotherapy (RADPLAT): A Case Report.

Introduction: Radiation and intra-arterial cisplatin infusion chemotherapy (RADPLAT) for advanced maxillary sinus cancer has accumulated evidence as a treatment with fewer complications and better 5-year survival rates. In this study, we report a case in which pterygoid muscle necrosis occurred 6 months following RADPLAT treatment for maxillary sinus cancer.

Background: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) imaging has been shown to correlate with prognosis. However, no numerical index of bleeding severity has been established. This study aimed to propose a new simple scoring system for computed tomography imaging of aSAH and to confirm its effectiveness in retrospective and prospective studies.

The Importance of Intratumoral Venous Drainage Preservation in Two-Stage Surgery of Large Hypervascular Choroid Plexus Papilloma: A Case Report.

Two-stage surgery may be necessary when total tumor removal cannot be accomplished in the first surgery; however, the extent and condition in which the remaining tumor should be before the next surgery have not yet been established. There is a risk of postoperative hemorrhage in the residual tumor, especially in hypervascular tumors. We report a case of hypervascular choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) in a 22-year-old male patient where the preservation of intratumoral venous drainage was considered important to avoid hemorrhagic complications during a two-stage surgery.

Normalized economical speed is influenced by aging and not by exercise habituation.

Objective: A U-shaped relationship between energy cost of walking (C) and walking speed indicates that there is a specific speed minimizing the C, called economical speed (ES). It is mostly slower in older adults than young adults; however, effects of leg length on the ES have been ignored. We investigated effects of aging and exercise habituation on the normalized ES by leg length (ES).

Smaller diameter sheaths are required to safely perform transradial neurointerventions.

We read with great interest the paper titled "Transradial access with Simmons guiding catheter for carotid artery stenting: Feasibility and procedural complications in a single-center experience" by Muszynski et al. The authors concluded that a transradial carotid artery stenting (CAS) using a Glidesheath Slender 7F Introducer/7F Envoy Simmons 2 catheter system was feasible with a high procedural success rate and low access site complication rate. We completely agree with their conclusions.

Endoscopic Diagnosis Strategy of Raspberry-Shaped Gastric Lesion in Helicobacter Pylori-Uninfected Patient.

Objectives: We aimed to clarify the endoscopic and clinicopathological features of raspberry-shaped gastric lesions (RSGLs) and to establish an endoscopic diagnostic algorithm for RSGLs.

Methods: We collected RSGLs from an endoscopic database at our hospital between May 2009 and August 2021. All RSGLs were histopathologically classified and compared based on their endoscopic and clinicopathological characteristics.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of wearing high-heeled shoes (HHS) on gait variability of the lower limbs when the treadmill speed was sinusoidally changed.

Methods: A total of 17 young females walked on a treadmill with HHS, HHS with detachable base sockets (HHS-Sockets), and low-heeled shoes (LHS) under sinusoidal speed-changing protocol of 60-s and 30-s periods with an amplitude of ± 0.56 m·s.

A new very-small-bore Simmons guiding sheath for transradial neurointervention: Technical note and initial experience.

Transradial access during neurointerventions has increased in popularity because of reduced complications and patient preference. Nevertheless, transradial cannulation into the left common carotid artery can be difficult technically because of the lack of catheter support in the aortic arch. Furthermore, the use of large sheaths can increase the risk of complications at the access site.

Comparison of Nutritional Composition and Antioxidant Properties of Pulverized and Unutilized Portions of Waxy Barley.

To promote the use of waxy barley bran, an underutilized resource, samples of waxy barley were divided into three parts: polished waxy barley powder (PWBP), inner bran layer powder (IBLP), and outer bran layer powder (OBLP). The color and appearance, general properties, minerals, vitamins, β-glucan, antioxidant properties, and aroma of each part were compared. In terms of appearance and color, IBLP and OBLP appeared more yellow than PWBP; general components that were more abundant in IBLP and OBLP compared with PWBP were protein, fat, and ash.

BACKGROUND Texture and color enhancement imaging (TXI), a new type of image-enhanced endoscopy, may improve the detection of gastrointestinal lesions. Barrett's esophagus (BE) requires an accurate diagnosis since it may undergo neoplastic transformation. We aimed to evaluate the usefulness of TXI compared with white light imaging (WLI) in BE.

Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is clinically important because of its poor prognosis. The incidence of CIN is higher in emergency than elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) because there is no established method to prevent CIN. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether bolus administration of a concentrated solution of sodium bicarbonate can prevent CIN in patients undergoing emergency PCI.

Gastric Juvenile Polyposis with Intramucosal Cancer Diagnosed by Magnifying Endoscopy with Narrow-band Imaging.

Although gastric juvenile polyposis (GJP) often coexists with gastric cancer, a preoperative accurate diagnosis is still difficult to obtain. A 70-year-old woman was referred for epigastralgia and anemia. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy with a conventional endoscope showed numerous gastric polyps with no cancerous findings.

Epilepsy surgery for dominant-side mesial temporal lobe epilepsy without hippocampal sclerosis.

Although anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) is an established surgery for medically intractable mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE), it can harm memory function, especially in dominant-side MTLE patients without hippocampal sclerosis (HS). To avoid this complication, multiple hippocampal transection (MHT) was developed, but its efficacy has not been fully elucidated. We report the detailed treatment results of MHT compared with that of ATL.

Correlation between Constipation Symptoms and Abdominal CT Imaging: A Cross-Sectional Pilot Study.

Evaluation of chronic constipation is important, although it is often difficult to satisfactorily treat due to the complex interplay of factors. This study aimed to determine whether the volume of intraluminal contents and lateral diameter of the colon measured from computed tomography (CT) images were correlated with the symptoms of chronic constipation and stool consistency. Consecutive patients who underwent the Constipation Scoring System (CSS), Bristol Stool Form Scale (BSFS) questionnaires and simple abdominal CT were selected retrospectively.
