Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Vs Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery for Unprotected Left Main Coronary Disease: G-LM Registry.

Coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) has been the standard of care for revascularization for patients with obstructive unprotected left main coronary disease (ULMCA). There have been multiple randomized and registry data demonstrating the technical and clinical efficacy of PCI in certain patients with ULMCA. The purpose of this study is to evaluate clinical outcomes of ULMCA PCI as compared to CABG in patients requiring revascularization in three Gulf countries.

Background: Pulmonary embolism with thrombus-in-transit through a patent foramen ovale is rare. It may present with neurological sequalae and rapid diagnosis is needed to prevent mortality and morbidity. The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) published guidelines in 2019 for diagnosis and management of acute pulmonary embolism which were useful in this case.

Gastrointestinal Bleed from a Left Ventricle to Colonic Interposition Graft Fistula following an Esophagectomy.

Colonic interposition grafts are commonly used as an esophageal conduit following esophageal resection. Significant morbidity is associated with this reconstruction due to the nature of the operation. Many of the complications associated with this procedure have clear management strategies; however, there is a paucity of data when it comes to managing rare complications.

Dual antiplatelet therapy use by Canadian cardiac surgeons.

Background: Dual antiplatelet therapy is the cornerstone treatment for patients with acute coronary syndrome. Recent Canadian Guidelines recommend the use of dual antiplatelet therapy for 1 year after coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with acute coronary syndrome, but considerable variability remains.

Methods: We performed a survey of 75 Canadian cardiac surgeons to assess the use of dual antiplatelet therapy.

Survival following traumatic ventricular rupture and prolonged ambulance transport in a patient with previous coronary artery bypass surgery.

Patients presenting with traumatic cardiac rupture are unlikely to survive lengthy transfers from the trauma scene to a hospital. However, in patients with a previous sternotomy, adhesions may divert cardiac hemorrhage, allowing hemodynamic management to be successful. We present an 83-year-old male with a history of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) who sustained a right ventricular rupture.
