Purpose Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a serious infection of the female reproductive system that can lead to long-term complications such as infertility, chronic pelvic pain, and ectopic pregnancy. PID is also associated with an increased risk of HIV infection and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Early diagnosis and treatment of PID is crucial to prevent complications.
