Background: Drug adherence has been extensively evaluated in many developed countries in the West using different methods of medication adherence measurement; however, there are relatively few reports studying the adherence levels among Saudi patients. Thus, this study will evaluate the adherence to cardiovascular medicines in Saudi patients visiting (PSCC) in Al-Qassim, Saudi Arabia.

Methods: This cross-sectional observational study relied on self-administered questionnaires.

Background: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a common occurrence in live births, with some exhibiting critical congenital heart disease; therefore, cardiology services should be available around the clock to ensure timely diagnosis and management. This study aims to describe the workload and the need for pediatric cardiac services in a maternity hospital for newborn referrals. Moreover, the study describes the indications for neonatal cardiology consultations.

Introduction:  The diagnosis of Kawasaki disease (KD) is based mainly on clinical findings and supported by laboratory tests. Complete KD fulfills the main clinical criteria, while incomplete KD includes patients with fewer main criteria and compatible laboratory or echocardiographic findings. The study compares the demographic, clinical, laboratory, and echocardiographic parameters between the complete and incomplete KD and early and late presenters.

Objective This study aims to evaluate the radiation dose for transcatheter patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) via the arterial route and compare it with previously published benchmarks. Background Exposure to radiation in the catheterization lab can cause skin injury and cancer in the long run, especially in pediatric patients with complex heart conditions, which necessitate serial catheterizations. Therefore, measuring the patient radiation dose and establishing a benchmark for each cardiac interventional procedure is essential.

Background: Red blood cell transfusion is common in critically ill children after cardiac surgery. Since the threshold for hemoglobin (Hb) transfusion need is not well defined, the threshold Hb level at which dependent critical oxygen uptake-to-delivery (VO2-DO2) status compensation is uncertain.

Objectives: To assess the effects of blood transfusion on the oxygen extraction ratio (O2ER) and central venous oxygen saturation (ScvO2) to identify a critical O2ER value that could help us determine the critical need for blood transfusion.

Study Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the level of risk for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) among young Saudi women living in Al-Qassim, Saudi Arabia.

Methods: As part of "The Heart Protection Campaign" in the Al-Qassim region, data were collected from Saudi women using questionnaires as well as objective measurement of height, weight, blood pressure, and blood glucose. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

The postnatal survival of patients with congenital cardiac defects such as hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is dependent on the patency of the ductus arteriosus and the presence of an unrestrictive atrial septal defect (ASD). We report a six week old infant with HLHS and tricuspid valve regurgitation with restrictive ASD. Transfemoral balloon atrial septostomy provided temporary relief but further attempts were not possible.

Transcatheter closure of secondum atrial septal defect (ASD) is an alternative option to open heart surgery with good short and long-term outcomes. For this purpose, the Amplatzer septal occluder (ASO) device is widely used. Arrhythmias are known complications of ASD device closure including atrial ectopy and heart block.

Background And Objectives: The care of children with complex congenital heart disease creates emo.tional and financial hardships for their families. We evaluated the social impact on families of patients with complex congenital heart disease (CHD) who underwent single ventricle repair.

Article Synopsis
  • Outreach echocardiographic services by cardiac sonographers may enhance patient management in district hospitals for suspected heart issues, though their safety and effectiveness need evaluation.
  • A review of 623 patients who received outreach evaluations revealed that 55% had normal echocardiograms, with 45% showing abnormalities; importantly, 29% of those diagnosed with minor congenital heart disease (CHD) were later found to have normal exams.
  • The findings suggest that these outreach clinics are both safe—since management plans did not change after pediatric cardiology evaluations—and useful in minimizing unnecessary specialist visits, providing reassurance to parents, and refining diagnoses for critically ill patients.

Unlabelled: Worldwide, congenital heart defects (CHD) are the leading cause of infant deaths owing to congenital anomalies. Knowing the actual incidence of severe CHD is important for defining the requirement for resources and the burden of disease within the total population.

Objectives:   The aim of the study is to estimate the incidence of severe CHD at the province of Al-Qassim as a reflection of that in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

We present a very rare cardiac lesion where we found a combination of abnormal pulmonary venous drainage and left-sided obstructive lesions. This case gives new insight into the complex malformation of the heart, raising questions about cardiac embryology and timing of interfering events. Here we describe the lesion for the first time and review the related literature.

A case is presented of neonatal death despite prompt management of a baby diagnosed at 30 h of age with d-transposition of great arteries and intact ventricular septum, restrictive foramen ovale, and constrictive ductus arteriosus. The literature in this matter is reviewed and the poor prognosis of such cases despite rapid intervention is again emphasized.
