Background: The advancement of sequencing technologies results in the rapid release of hundreds of new genome assemblies a year providing unprecedented resources for the study of genome evolution. Within this context, the significance of in-depth analyses of repetitive elements, transposable elements (TEs) in particular, is increasingly recognized in understanding genome evolution. Despite the plethora of available bioinformatic tools for identifying and annotating TEs, the phylogenetic distance of the target species from a curated and classified database of repetitive element sequences constrains any automated annotation effort.

Globally, prostate cancer (PCa) is regarded as a challenging health issue, and the number of PCa patients continues to rise despite the availability of effective treatments in recent decades. The current therapy with chemotherapeutic drugs has been largely ineffective due to multidrug resistance and the conventional treatment has restricted drug accessibility to malignant tissues, necessitating a higher dosage resulting in increased cytotoxicity. Plant-derived bioactive compounds have recently attracted a great deal of attention in the field of PCa treatment due to their potent effects on several molecular targets and synergistic effects with anti-PCa drugs.

Polymorphism of transcription factor 7-like 2 (TCF7L2) has a link with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) through β cell dysfunction that causes defect in blood glucose homeostasis. This case-control study recruited 67 T2DM as cases and 65 age-matched healthy individuals as controls to determine whether the polymorphism rs12255372 (G > T) in the TCF7L2 gene have an association with T2DM in Bangladeshi population. Genomic DNA was purified from peripheral whole blood sample and direct Sanger sequencing was done for genotyping of SNP.

Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is a promising technique for field identification of substandard and falsified drugs because it is portable, rapid, nondestructive, and can differentiate many formulated pharmaceutical products. Portable NIR spectrometers rely heavily on chemometric analyses based on libraries of NIR spectra from authentic pharmaceutical samples. However, it is difficult to build comprehensive product libraries in many low- and middle-income countries due to the large numbers of manufacturers who supply these markets, frequent unreported changes in materials sourcing and product formulation by the manufacturers, and general lack of cooperation in providing authentic samples.

Rupestine is a guaipyridine sesquiterpene alkaloid isolated from L. The total synthesis of rupestine and its epimers was accomplished employing a Suzuki reaction to build a terminal diene moiety.
