This work deals with poly(ethylene terephthalate) waste as a precursor to synthesize new cross-linked poly(ionic liquids) (CLPILs). The newly synthesized CLPILs, VPCT-Cl and VPCT-AA, were used for magnetite nanoparticle surface modification, producing VCL/FeO and VAA/FeO, respectively. The chemical structures of the CLPILs and surface-modified FeO were elucidated by Fourier transform infrared and X-ray diffraction.

Support ector achine (SVM) is a newer machine learning algorithm for classification, while logistic regression (LR) is an older statistical classification method. Despite the numerous studies contrasting SVM and LR, new improvements such as bagging and ensemble have been applied to them since these comparisons were made. This study proposes a new hybrid model based on SVM and LR for predicting small events per variable (EPV).

The purpose of this review is to summarize the current literature on reductive C-N coupling of nitro compounds and boronic acids, with special emphasis on the mechanistic features of the reactions. The metal-catalyzed reactions are discussed first. This is followed by electro-synthesis and organophosphorus-catalyzed reactions.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated how human activities and seasonal changes affect the water quality and heavy metal concentrations in River Yala (RY) in the Lake Victoria basin by analyzing various physico-chemical parameters and ecological risks across different agricultural sites during both dry and wet seasons.
  • - Sample analysis revealed significant variability in parameters like electrical conductivity, turbidity, and heavy metal levels, with water and sediment data differing between pristine upstream areas and various agricultural farms, indicating a potential pollution impact from farming activities.
  • - The results showed that the wet season generally had a more pronounced effect on the levels of contaminants compared to the dry season, and specific heavy metals exhibited distinct correlations based on seasonal conditions, highlighting the importance of monitoring these factors for ecological health.

The cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is an important parameter assessing arterial function. It reflects arterial stiffness from the origin of the aorta to the ankle, and the algorithm is blood pressure independent. Recent data have suggested that a high CAVI score can predict future cardiovascular disease (CVD) events; however, to date, no study has been done in Malaysia.

Tissue engineering is an advanced and potential biomedical approach to treat patients suffering from lost or failed an organ or tissue to repair and regenerate damaged tissues that increase life expectancy. The biopolymers have been used to fabricate smart hydrogels to repair damaged tissue as they imitate the extracellular matrix (ECM) with intricate structural and functional characteristics. These hydrogels offer desired and controllable qualities, such as tunable mechanical stiffness and strength, inherent adaptability and biocompatibility, swellability, and biodegradability, all crucial for tissue engineering.

In this research the goal was to produce novel pyrimidine triazole compounds in high yields using triethylamin as an efficient catalyst. These new compounds were synthesized by using multicomponent reaction of aldehydes, guanidine, electron deficient acetylenic compounds, tert-butyl isocyanide and hydrazonoyle chloride in aqueous media. Due to the presence of an NH group, which was assessed using two different methodologies, newly synthesized pyrimidine triazoles have antioxidant properties.

Transformation of carbon dioxide (CO) into value-added organic compounds has attracted increasing interest of scientific community in the last few decades, not only because CO is the primary greenhouse gas that drives global climate change and ocean acidification, but also because it has been regarded as a plentiful, nontoxic, nonflammable and renewable one-carbon (C1) feedstock. Among the various CO-conversion processes, carboxylation reactions represent one of the most beautiful and attractive research topics in the field, since it offers the possibility for the construction of synthetically and biologically important carboxylic acids from various easily accessible (pseudo)halides, organosilicon, and organoboron compounds. The purpose of this review is to summarize the available literature on deoxygenative carboxylation of alcohols and their derivatives utilizing CO as a carboxylative reagent.

Antibody cross-reactivity among flaviviruses is a major limitation in understanding the prevalence without vector control measures. In this study, we investigated the presence of Zika virus (ZIKV)-specific antibodies and the significance of their cross-reactivity with other flaviviruses, which could affect the serological specificity in both symptomatic and asymptomatic pregnant women. Among the results obtained from 217 serum samples tested for ZIKV-specific IgM and IgG, no specific predictions regarding seropositivity or exposure due to extensive cross-reactivity with dengue virus (DENV) serology could be made.

Urban forests provide direct and indirect benefits to human well-being that are increasingly captured in residential property values. Remote Sensing (RS) can be used to measure a wide range of forest and vegetation parameters that allows for a more detailed and better understanding of their specific influences on housing prices. Herein, through a systematic literature review approach, we reviewed 89 papers (from 2010 to 2022) from 21 different countries that used RS data to quantify vegetation indices, forest and tree parameters of urban forests and estimated their influence on residential property values.

Background In COVID-19, the release of pro-inflammatory mediators in the cytokine storm, primarily interleukin-6 (IL-6), has been hypothesized to induce pulmonary intravascular coagulation. However, the relationship between IL-6 and coagulopathy remains unclear in COVID-19 progression. We aimed to investigate the correlation of IL-6 with D-dimer, fibrinogen, prothrombin time (PT), and ferritin.
