Several surgical methods exist for the treatment of osteochondral lesions of the femoral head. They include osteochondral allograft transfer, femoral osteotomy, microfracture, autologous chondrocyte implantation, and hip arthroplasty. Mosaicplasty is a surgical method in which cylindrical plugs of bone and cartilage are transferred from a donor site to tunnels drilled into the bone and cartilage defects.
