Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted using a large population database to analyze pregnancy outcomes for women with Down syndrome (DS) from 2004 to 2014, comparing them to a control group of women without DS.* -
  • Out of over 9 million deliveries, only 184 were identified with mothers having DS; the study found that while many pregnancy outcomes were similar, women with DS had a significantly higher risk of prematurity and adverse neonatal conditions.* -
  • The authors recommend that women with DS receive counseling about these risks and enhance antenatal monitoring to address the potential complications for both mothers and newborns.*

Article Synopsis
  • Lhermitte-Duclos Disease (LDD) is a benign brain condition linked to Cowden syndrome (CS), which is caused by mutations in the PTEN gene and is associated with tumor growth.
  • A case study describes a young woman who experienced severe headaches, vertigo, and other symptoms. After imaging revealed a lesion in her brain, she underwent surgery, which led to recovery and a diagnosis of LDD.
  • Due to the lack of genetic testing in her country, a clinical scoring system indicated a high likelihood of a PTEN mutation, allowing for family counseling and necessary future monitoring for potential cancer development.

Objectives: Diabetic retinopathy is a common microvascular complication of diabetes. Despite that, there are few studies in the literature to address pregnancy, delivery, or neonatal outcomes among women with diabetic retinopathy.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study using the Health Care Cost and Utilization Project-Nationwide Inpatient Sample Database over 11 years from 2004 to 2014.

Orchids are basically ornamental, and biological functions are seldom evaluated. This research investigated the effects of Acampe ochracea methanol extract (AOME) in ameliorating the paracetamol (PCM) induced liver injury in Wistar albino rats, evaluating its phytochemical status through UPLC-qTOF-MS analysis. With molecular docking and network pharmacology, virtual screening verified the inevitable interactions between the UPLC-qTOF-MS-characterized compounds and hepatoprotective drug receptors.

In mice, the Binder of Sperm Homolog 1 protein is exclusively expressed in the epididymis. BSP proteins play a role in the membrane modification events that occur during sperm capacitation. In the current study, we investigated the role of mouse recombinant BSP homolog 1 (rec-BSPH1) in sperm-egg interaction.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the anticancer effects of Trema orientalis leaves extract (TLME) against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) in Swiss albino mice, evaluating both in vitro and in vivo effects.
  • Results showed that TLME significantly inhibited tumor cell growth by approximately 59% and induced apoptosis in the cancer cells, with notable morphological changes.
  • TLME displayed a safe dosage profile (LD50 of 3120.650 mg/kg) and restored altered blood parameters in treated mice, suggesting its potential as a natural anti-cancer treatment.
