Hypertension is a prevalent condition that significantly contributes to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide. Aldosterone, a key hormone in the regulation of blood pressure, has been implicated in the pathophysiology of hypertension, leading to increased interest in aldosterone synthase inhibitors (ASIs) as a therapeutic option. This meta-analysis aims to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of ASIs in reducing blood pressure and associated adverse events in older adults with hypertension, providing a comprehensive overview of current evidence to inform clinical practice.

Article Synopsis
  • Kidney failure is the tenth leading cause of death in the US, often linked to diabetes, with a significant number of deaths occurring from 1999 to 2020.
  • A study using CDC data found that while mortality rates for kidney failure initially declined until 2015, they began to rise again, especially among men and certain racial groups.
  • Notable disparities were observed, with non-Hispanic Black individuals experiencing the highest rates, and higher mortality rates found in non-metropolitan areas compared to metropolitan ones.

Background: There has been growing interest in using artificial intelligence/deep learning (DL) to help diagnose prevalent diseases earlier. In this study we sought to survey the landscape of externally validated DL-based computer-aided diagnostic (CADx) models, and assess their diagnostic performance for predicting the risk of malignancy in computed tomography (CT)-detected pulmonary nodules.

Methods: An electronic search was performed in four databases (from inception to 10 August 2023).

Aims: The atrioventricular block (AVB) is a conduction system problem that results from the impairment in the transmission of an impulse from the atria to the ventricle, the disease has many etiologies. This article aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dual and single-chamber pacemakers in patients with SSS and AVB.

Methods: An electronic search of PubMed (Medline), EMBASE, and Google Scholar was performed from 2000 till August 15th, 2022.

Objectives: Preeclampsia is one of the most frequent pregnancy disorders, with a global incidence of 2%-8%. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D is an essential mineral for human health; some studies suggest link between 25-hydroxyvitamin D deficiency and preeclampsia, while others offer contradictory findings. Thus, the goal of this study is to evaluate the relationships between maternal 25- hydroxyvitamin D concentrations and the risk of preeclampsia.

Background: Heart failure is a pathophysiological condition where decreased cardiac output is observed subsequent to any structural deformity or cessation of normal function. Thiamine deficiency is one of the risk factors responsible for causing HF; other risk factors include hypertension, smoking, and obesity.

Objective: We conducted a systemic review and meta-analysis of RCTs to scrutinize whether the heart failure patients would benefit from thiamine supplementation or not when compared to placebo.
