  • High-dose radioiodine ablation (RAI) therapy requires patients to be isolated due to the large amounts of radioactive waste produced, which must be stored until it is safe to discharge.
  • This study explores using graphene oxide silver (GOAg) and bamboo activated carbon (BAC) as alternative materials to effectively extract I-131 from this clinical radioactive wastewater.
  • Various scientific analyses (FESEM, XPS, FTIR, XRD) were conducted on the synthesized adsorbents, revealing their structural properties and helping determine their effectiveness in removing radioactive substances.

  • - Restructuring the energy industry for sustainability involves moving from carbon-based energy to renewable sources, emphasizing hydrogen as a clean energy carrier, despite challenges related to its transportation and storage due to its high reactivity and low density.
  • - Liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) provide a practical solution for hydrogen storage, and the review discusses various technologies and catalyst materials to improve hydrogenation and dehydrogenation processes with examples like benzene/cyclohexane and toluene/methylcyclohexane.
  • - The review also examines the global implementation of a hydrogen economy, focusing on plans in Saudi Arabia and GCC countries, while highlighting challenges such as enhancing hydrogen capacity, reducing energy consumption, and ensuring material stability.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigates how the medications propofol and fentanyl behave in the body (PK/PD) in patients using veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-V ECMO) due to a lack of existing data in this area.
  • - Conducted at Toronto General Hospital ICU, the research involved 11 patients monitored over a median of 146 hours, revealing that both medications follow a two-compartment model for clearance and that over-sedation was common despite increased clearance rates shortly after ECMO began.
  • - Results show that while clearance of sedatives increased temporarily after ECMO initiation and differences were noted based on sex, sedation effectiveness varied and respiratory effort was inconsistent regardless of medication levels.

The aluminum industry generates a significant amount of red mud as solid waste. This waste is high in mineral content, particularly metal oxides, and difficult to treat, manage, and recycle, resulting in malignant environmental effects. A simple, scalable, and precisely controlled hydrochloric acid treatment transforms the red mud into a useful product by selectively removing electrochemically inactive phases.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are a potential new technology in energy storage due to their high energy density, affordability, and environmental friendliness. The development of AZIBs is still hampered by unchecked zinc dendrite formation during cycling, which results in an unstable interface, a short cycling life, and a considerable capacity decline with security issues. Herein, we demonstrate a novel nanofiber membrane based on polyetherimide-polyacrylonitrile (PEI/PAN) polymer via electrospinning method with entangled nanofibers for AZIBs applications.

Objectives: Infections represent a major risk for critically ill neonatal and paediatric patients requiring extracorporeal life-saving support such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and/or continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRT). Patient outcomes rely on achieving target antimicrobial concentrations. In critically ill adults on extracorporeal support, suboptimal antimicrobial concentrations have been shown to be common.

Salinity is a significant threat that causes considerable yield losses in date palm. The root endophytic fungus has proven effective in providing salt stress tolerance to host plants. However, the underlying molecular mechanism facilitating the date palm's response to inoculation, and its involvement in the salt stress tolerance, remains unknown.

Background: Despite their rarity, malignant odontogenic tumors (MOT) represent an important group of oral lesions characterized by their variable clinical presentations and sometimes unexpected biological behavior.

Objectives: The purpose of this retrospective cross-sectional study was to evaluate the number, types, and frequency of MOT and to investigate the relative rate of malignant transformation in recurrent odontogenic tumors (OT).

Methodology: The records of patients diagnosed with OT in the hospital of the Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University, were reviewed over 10 years (2013-2022).

Importance: There is uncertainty about whether prolonged infusions of β-lactam antibiotics improve clinically important outcomes in critically ill adults with sepsis or septic shock.

Objective: To determine whether prolonged β-lactam antibiotic infusions are associated with a reduced risk of death in critically ill adults with sepsis or septic shock compared with intermittent infusions.

Data Sources: The primary search was conducted with MEDLINE (via PubMed), CINAHL, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and ClinicalTrials.

Drug treatments for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) dramatically improve patient outcomes, and although extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has significant use in these patients, it is unknown whether ECMO affects drug dosing. We used an ex vivo adult ECMO model to measure ECMO circuit effects on concentrations of specific COVID-19 drug treatments. Three identical ECMO circuits used in adult patients were set up.

The exploration of underlying mechanisms leading to the development of smartphone addiction has been limited, with only a few studies incorporating theories to provide explanations. Drawing upon the Dual Systems Model, this study tested the hypothesis that the reflective system of self-regulation would mediate the relation between the reflexive system of impulsivity and narcissism, and smartphone addiction in a sample of 298 undergraduate students. Participants completed a self-administrated web-based questionnaire containing measures of impulsivity (the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale), narcissism (the Narcissistic Personality Inventory), self-regulation (the Self-Regulation Scale), and smartphone addiction (the Smartphone Addiction Inventory).

To combat with energy crisis considering clean energy, oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial to implement electrolytic hydrogen fuel production in real life. Here, straightforward chemical synthesis pathways are followed to prepare cobalt tetraoxide nanoparticles (CoONPs) in an alkaline OER process using poly[(2-methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride (CoONPs@PMTC) as support to prevent aggregation. In material characterization, the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern confirms the crystallinity of the synthesized CoONPs@PMTC, and Raman spectroscopy indicates that the CoONPs contain cubic close-packed oxides.
