A comparative study on targeted gene expression in zebrafish and its gill cell line exposed to chlorpyrifos.

Chlorpyrifos (CPF) is an organophosphorus-based insecticide, which is known to pose a serious risk to aquatic animals. However, the mechanisms of CPF toxicity in animals still remain unclear. The present investigation aimed to compare the potential effects of CPF in zebrafish (Danio rerio) and its gill cell line (DrG cells).

Development and characterization of brain cell line from Trachinotus blochii and its application in virological and gene expression studies.

A permanent cell line, SPB (Snubnose pompano brain) was established from Trachinotus blochii by the explant culture method. It has been sub-cultured more than 75 passages and showed optimal growth at 28°C using L-15 medium supplemented with 15% to 20% FBS. The SPB cells were cryopreserved at different passage levels for various applications.

First report on the occurrence of cyprinid herpesvirus 3 in koi carp (Cyprinus carpio koi) in India.

This study reports the occurrence of cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3) in koi carp (Cyprinus carpio koi) for the first time in India. The koi carp, with clinical signs of ulcer with haemorrhage on body surface, necrosis of fin and discolouration of gill associated with huge mortality, were observed in aquarium shops, rearing tanks and grow-out ponds located in Chennai, India. The PCR assay carried out on infected fish samples using different primer sets specific to CyHV-3 confirmed its presence in the infected fish.
