Article Synopsis
  • Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and its precursor, monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (MBL), have a genetic component, prompting researchers to analyze serum free light-chain (sFLC) levels in different patient groups.
  • The study compared sFLC levels in familial CLL, sporadic CLL, familial MBL, unaffected relatives, and a large reference population, finding elevated monoclonal sFLC in age groups over 50 primarily in CLL cases.
  • Results indicated no significant difference in sFLC levels between familial and sporadic CLL, but highlighted the potential for using sFLC levels as a risk factor for relatives of CLL patients.
