In recent years supramolecular structures built from macrocyclic compounds have attracted tremendous interest due to the unique properties derived from dynamic self-assembly. Our study proposes a two-step mechanism to form a supramolecular hydrogel system: (1) the formation of micelles, and (2) micelle association with α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) due to threading of PEGMA in the α-CD cavity, forming inclusion complexes. Using this mechanism, a supramolecular hydrogel made from a tri-component copolymer PLLA/DMAEMA/PEGMA and α-CD was fabricated for the first time and characterized in terms of its structural, morphological, and rheological properties.

Brain is the command center for the body and contains a lot of information which can be extracted by using different non-invasive techniques. Electroencephalography (EEG), Magnetoencephalography (MEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) are the most common neuroimaging techniques to elicit brain behavior. By using these techniques different activity patterns can be measured within the brain to decode the content of mental processes especially the visual and auditory content.

Given that endometrial cancer (EC) is often the sentinel cancer for female Lynch syndrome patients, we have successfully implemented universal screening of ECs and have previously shown that this is the preferred method to identify these patients. However, during the course of universal screening of EC, we encountered 6 cases with an unusual pattern of mismatch-repair protein immunohistochemistry that has not been previously described in this setting. In these 6 cases, there was an abrupt loss of MLH1 and PMS2 expression in a portion of the tumor.

It is believed that almost all squamous cell carcinomas of the cervix are associated with HR-HPV infection. However, a subset of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) (CIN2 and CIN3) lesions is found in those women with negative HPV testing. Knowledge of HPV status can influence pathologists' decision in rendering the diagnosis of cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL).

A salicylic acid-inducible WRKY gene, PtrWRKY73, from Populus trichocarpa , was isolated and characterized. Overexpression of PtrWRKY73 in Arabidopsis thaliana increased resistance to biotrophic pathogens but reduced resistance against necrotrophic pathogens. WRKY transcription factors are commonly involved in plant defense responses.

Introduction: Squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) can rarely be detected in endometrial sampling. We reviewed all cases of SIL and SCC detected solely on endometrial biopsies and curettings to determine their significance and whether these findings were detected on prior or concurrent Papanicolaou (Pap) test.

Materials And Methods: Endometrial samples with detached fragments of SIL and SCC over a 13-year period were reviewed, along with prior and/or concurrent Pap tests, human papillomavirus status, and subsequent pathology results.

Introduction: Lung transplantation (LTx) is performed for end-stage lung diseases that would be otherwise fatal. Pulmonary allograft recipients are a unique patient population as they are at high risk for malignancy and infectious complications due to the need for immunosuppression. Endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS)-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is a minimally invasive technique for evaluating abnormalities of the mediastinum/lungs.

WRKY proteins are involved in various physiological processes in plants, especially in coping with diverse biotic and abiotic stresses. However, limited information is available on the roles of specific WRKY transcription factors in poplar defense. In this study, we reported the characterization of PtoWRKY60, a Group IIa WRKY member, from Populus tomentosa Carr.

In medical image segmentation, manual segmentation is considered both labor- and time-intensive while automated segmentation often fails to segment anatomically intricate structure accordingly. Interactive segmentation can tackle shortcomings reported by previous segmentation approaches through user intervention. To better reflect user intention, development of suitable editing functions is critical.

Sarcopenia is a geriatric syndrome that is characterized by gradual loss of muscle mass and strength with increasing age. Although the underlying mechanism is still unknown, the contribution of increased oxidative stress in advanced age has been recognized as one of the risk factors of sarcopenia. Thus, eliminating reactive oxygen species (ROS) can be a strategy to combat sarcopenia.

Resistance to receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) blockade in breast cancer is often mediated by activation of bypass pathways that sustain growth. Src and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) are two intrinsic targets that are downstream of most RTKs. To date, limited clinical efficacy has been observed with either Src or mTOR inhibitors when used as single agents.

Men with organ-confined prostate cancer (CaP) are often treated with radical prostatectomy. Despite similar postoperative characteristics, a significant proportion of men with an intermediate risk of progression experience prostate-specific antigen (PSA)-defined failure, while others have relapse-free survival (RFS). Additional prognostic markers are needed to predict the outcome of these patients.

Background: Papanicolaou (Pap) test interpretations of atypical glandular cells are associated with subsequent detection of squamous and, less often, glandular malignancies. A Pap test with a combined interpretation of squamous and glandular atypia indicates concern for either 2 distinct lesions (both squamous and glandular) or involvement of cervical squamous and glandular epithelium by a single pathologic process. Dual interpretations can potentially guide patient management.

Alveolar soft part sarcoma of the vulvovaginal region is limited to only 8 reported vaginal cases and 1 vulvar case in the English literature. The histogenesis of the tumor remains intriguing with postulates favoring a myogenic versus nonmyogenic origin. A reciprocal translocation for ASPL-TFE3 gene fusion, frequently detected in ~90% of cases, combined with TFE3 protein immunoexpression are highly sensitive and specific methods for diagnostic confirmation.

UVB and UVC toxicity was detected in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cell lines AA8, UV5 and XEM2 (a V79-derived cell line expressing rat P450 1A1). Unlike FICZ-HPLC assay that showed induction of CYP1A1 enzyme activity after 20 minutes and 2 hour UVC exposure, the EROD assay showed no difference in cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) activity after exposure to different doses of UVB and UVC light. Different cytotoxic and mutagenic effect of photo lesions induced by UVC and UVB light was investigated with the DRAG and HPRT assays, comparing the wild type cell line AA8 and the Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER) deficient cell line UV5.
