The article discusses updated medical eligibility recommendations, effectiveness of progestin-only pills (including the newly approved over-the-counter pill), safety of estrogen containing contraceptives in those with migraine, topiramate interactions with hormonal contraception, and the use of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with oral emergency contraception to improve efficacy.

Mpox virus (MPXV): comprehensive analysis of pandemic risks, pathophysiology, treatments, and mRNA vaccine development.

Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a zoonotic disease caused by the Mpox virus (MPXV), which has recently attracted global attention due to its potential for widespread outbreaks. Initially identified in 1958, MPXV primarily spreads to humans through contact with infected wild animals, particularly rodents. Historically confined to Africa, the virus has expanded beyond endemic regions, with notable outbreaks in Europe and North America in 2022, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM).

Analysis of the relationship between medical achievement self-efficacy perception and impostor phenomenon in the postgraduate education process: a cross-sectional study.

Background: This study aimed to assess the correlation between the impostor phenomenon and the level of academic self-efficacy. The secondary aim was to determine the sociodemographic variables affecting these two conditions. Based on the acquired findings, it is possible to take supportive and preventive measures.

This study evaluates the roles of immune checkpoint receptors on NK cell phenotype and functions both before and after circulation through tumor tissue. Twenty non-small cell lung cancer patients undergoing surgery and 21 healthy controls were included.

In vivo corneal confocal microscopy findings in cases with pterygium: a case-control study.

This study aimed to evaluate corneal findings of pterygium cases using in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) which is a non-invasive and repeatable method. In this case-control study, 54 patients diagnosed with pterygium and 50 healthy controls were investigated, between 2020 and 2021. After a comprehensive ophthalmological examination, the central corneas of all participants were evaluated by corneal IVCM.

This study aimed to examine retinal changes in first-episode psychosis patients treated with electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) via OCT.

To utilize the targeting ability of PLTs toward tumor cells and maintain the activity of PLTs, doxorubicin-loaded nanoparticles (NP) were attached on the surface of PTLs (NP-PLT).

Background: Plastination preserves biological specimens for long-term and geometric morphometry analyzes shape differences with advanced statistical methods. This study primarily aimed to statistically quantify shrinkage in brain sections following plastination. The secondary goal was to present the shrinkage occurring in both tissues and cavities of specific anatomical structures using geometric morphometry.

Navigating the gray zone: Machine learning can differentiate malignancy in PI-RADS 3 lesions.

Introduction: The objective of this study is to predict the probability of prostate cancer in PI-RADS 3 lesions using machine learning methods that incorporate clinical and mpMRI parameters.

Methods: The study included patients who had PI-RADS 3 lesions detected on mpMRI and underwent fusion biopsy between January 2020 and January 2024. Radiological parameters (Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), tumour ADC/contralateral ADC ratio, Ktrans value, periprostatic adipose tissue thickness, lesion size, prostate volume) and clinical parameters (age, body mass index, total prostate specific antigen, free PSA, PSA density, systemic inflammatory index, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], platelet lymphocyte ratio, lymphocyte monocyte ratio) were documented.

Atrial myxoma as a mimicker of intracardiac thrombus in Behçet's syndrome: a case study with histopathological confirmation.

Cardiomyopathies cause most intracardiac thrombosis (ICT), and Behçet's syndrome (BS) is a rare inflammatory disease that can be responsible for a proportion of ICT. Other inflammatory disorders involved in the aetiology of ICT include antiphospholipid syndrome, Henoch-Schonlein purpura, COVID-19, and Loeffler endocarditis. ICT usually occur during the active phase of BS, and they have a close relationship with vascular involvement.

A laponite-based immunologically active gel delivery system for long-acting tumor vaccine.

Traditional bolus vaccines typically require multiple doses, which complicates the vaccination process and may cause missed shots, leading to sub-optimal immunity and reduced vaccine effectiveness. Herein, a gel-based long-acting vaccine system with self-adjuvant properties based on laponite was constructed to simplify vaccination procedures and improve vaccine effectiveness. Firstly, the gel system could recruit multiple types of immune cells to form immune niches.

Effects of pioglitazone and metformin on abdominal adhesion formation in an experimental model.

Background: This study evaluated the use of metformin or pioglitazone in preventing or reducing the development of post-operative intra-abdominal adhesion (PIAA) by employing histopathological, immunohistochemical, and biochemical analyses in an experimental adhesion model.

Methods: Fifty Wistar-Albino rats were divided into five groups: Group I (Control), Group II (Sham Treatment), Group III (Hy-aluronic Acid), Group IV (Metformin), and Group V (Pioglitazone). Adhesions were induced in the experimental groups, except for the sham group, using the scraping method.
