The local geese in the transition region between the Caucasus Mountains and Anatolia have economically significant differences in productivity and are identified by four feather colors, white, black, piebald, and yellow. This study was undertaken to determine the genetic structure, evolutionary relationships, and genetic diversity among these birds. DNA samples were obtained from 100 animals, and 50 random primers were screened.

This protocol details the chemical modification of the mechanosensitive channel of large-conductance (MscL) channel protein into a light-activated nanovalve and its utilization for triggered delivery in synthetic liposomal vesicles. It is based on charge-induced activation of this otherwise mechanosensitive channel by covalent attachment to the protein of rationally designed synthetic functionalities. In the dark, these functionalities will be uncharged and the channel will stay closed, but UV illumination will cause their ionization and trigger channel activity.

Kevlar and Nomex are high-performance polymers which have wide varieties of applications in daily life. Recently, they have been proposed to be biocidal materials when reacted with household bleach (sodium hypochlorite solution) because they contain amide moieties which can be chlorinated to generate biocidal N-halamine functional groups. Although Nomex can be chlorinated without any significant decomposition, Kevlar decomposes under the same chlorination conditions.

We report a 32-year-old woman diagnosed with spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) and Behcet's Syndrome. Suspicion of SIH was based on cervical MRI findings, and magnetic resonance (MR)-cisternography revealed dural leaks bilaterally at lumbar region. MR-cisternography is a recently performed technique and gaining importance in demonstration of CSF fistula.

Background And Aim: With the introduction of H2 receptor antagonists and proton pump inhibitors, the incidence of elective surgery for peptic ulcer (PU) diseases has decreased, although complications of PU such as perforation and bleeding have remained fairly constant. The purpose of this study was to identify the risk factors that predict morbidity and mortality in patients with perforated PU.

Optic neuropathy related to toxins is a complex, multifactorial disease potentially affecting individuals of all ages. We report a case of presumed toxic optic neuropathy secondary to H2O2 exposure. This has not been previously reported, and the temporal relationship of the exposure to the optic neuropathy is compelling, although not definite, evidence of a causal relationship.

Alloplastic materials have come into use to replace autogeneous bone grafts because bone grafts are associated with donor site morbidity, resorption and difficulty in shaping. Porous high-density polyethylene (HDPPE) is a commercial product which is nonallergenic, nonantigenic, noncarcinogenic and nonresorbable, highly stable and somewhat flexible.

An alternative technique for microsurgically unreplantable fingertip amputations.

Reattachment of the amputated fingertips as composite grafts has been performed for distal levels in children, with high rates of good outcome, but the majority of the reports emphasized that this procedure had success rates only up to 50% in adults. Several techniques to enhance composite graft take in adults have been defined. In this study, a technique to enhance nonmicrosurgical replantation of amputated fingertips as composite grafts is presented.
