The phase change behavior of vanadium dioxide (VO) has been widely explored in a variety of optical and photonic applications. Commonly, its optical parameters have been studied in two extreme regimes: hot (metallic) and cold (insulating) states. However, in the transition temperatures, VO acts like an inherent metamaterial with mixed metallic-insulating character.

Impact and prevention of errors in endovascular treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms.

Background: Preventing errors and complications in neurointervention is crucial, particularly in the treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs), where the natural history is generally benign, and the margin of treatment benefit small. We aimed to investigate how neurointerventionalists perceive the importance and frequency of errors and the resulting complications in endovascular UIA treatment, and which steps could be taken to prevent them.

Methods: An international multidisciplinary survey was conducted among neurointerventionalists.

Beam splitters are an indispensable part of optical measurements and applications. We propose a dynamic beam splitter incorporating all-dielectric metasurface in an elastic substrate under external mechanical stimulus of stretching. The optical behavior at 720 nm wavelength shows that it can be changed from a pure optical-diode-like behavior to a dynamic beam splitter.

The role of endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene polymorphisms in patients with lung cancer.

Objectives: Lung cancer is a disease characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in the lung tissues. The most common causes of lung cancer include smoking, exposure to radon gas, asbestos, environmental pollutants as well as genetic factors. Nitric oxide (NO) has potential mutagenic and carcinogenic activity and may play an important role in lung cancer.

Identifying unambiguous atomic models for oxyfluorides, needed for materials design and structure-property control, is often still a considerable challenge despite their advantageous optical responses and applications in energy storage systems. In this work, NMR crystallography and single-crystal X-ray diffraction are combined for the complete structure solution of three new compounds featuring a rare triangular early transition metal oxyfluoride cluster, [MoOF].

Survival analysis and factors affecting survival in patients who presented to the medical oncology unit with non-small cell lung cancer.

Background/aim: This study aimed to investigate the effect of clinical and pathological indicators at the time of the diagnosis on overall survival in patients recently diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer.

Materials And Methods: The study population consisted of patients who were diagnosed at the Faculty of Medicine at Isparta Süleyman Demirel University Hospital between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2017 and presented to the medical oncology outpatient clinic.

Results: A total of 518 patients were evaluated, including 260 patients with squamous cell carcinoma, 207 patients with adenocarcinoma, 50 patients with non-small cell lung cancer-not otherwise specified, and 1 patient with large cell carcinoma.

COVID-19 survivors can have serious complications from this viral infection, particularly respiratory and cardiovascular with severe asthenia and fatigue. Several studies have already demonstrated the benefit of early rehabilitation after the acute phase, especially in patients who have been in intensive care. The authors present a rehabilitation program including interdisciplinary care with simple and reproducible clinical criteria.

Headache Attack Similar to Paroxismal Hemicrania Seen During Flight.

Airplane headache (AH) is unique to plane travel and looks like a short duration migraine attack or paroxysmal hemicrania (PH) attack without any autonomic symptoms. Until now, there has been no documented association between AH and PH. We report a 50-yr-old healthy woman with a very severe and sudden pulsating headache located in the left frontal region with radiation into the left eye during takeoff which diminished within 10-15 min during her airplane journeys.

Electroencephalograph (EEG), a valuable tool in the clinical evaluation, is readily available, safe and provides information about brain function. EEG interpretation is important for the diagnosis of neurological disorders. The long-term EEG data may be required to document and study neurosciences that include many epileptic activities and phase reversal (PR) etc.

Lithium Diffusion in Niobium Tungsten Oxide Shear Structures.

Niobium tungsten oxides with crystallographic shear structures form a promising class of high-rate Li-ion anode materials. Lithium diffusion within these materials is studied in this work using density functional theory calculations, specifically nudged elastic band calculations and molecular dynamics simulations. Lithium diffusion is found to occur through jumps between 4-fold coordinated window sites with low activation barriers (80-300 meV) and is constrained to be effectively one-dimensional by the crystallographic shear planes of the structures.

Background: Although it is well known that patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) have low bone mineral density (BMD) and serum vitamin D level, there are no studies evaluating their relationship with the stage and clinical features of the PD.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between BMD and serum vitamin D level and stage or clinical features of the PD.

Materials And Methods: One hundred twenty-four patients with PD recruited from Movement Disorders Outpatient Clinic and age- and sex-matched 116 healthy controls were included in the study.

Background The morphological assessment of urinary erythrocytes (uRBC) is a convenient screening tool for the differentiation of nephrological (dysmorphic) and urological (isomorphic) causes of hematuria. Stent Graft Expulsion Outside the Skin: A Rare Case.

Patients who undergo stent grafting may present to the ED some time after the procedure with various related symptoms. The most common of these are stent graft occlusions or hematoma, although infection or abscess also may develop. In this case report, a 58-year-old man presented to the ED with a purulent wound on the stump of an amputated leg and a foreign body protruding from the wound site.

Evaluation of the optic nerve head vessel density in the patients with asymmetric pseudoexfoliative glaucoma: an OCT angiography study.

Purpose: To evaluate vascular microcirculation changes of the optic nerve head (ONH) in the patients with asymmetric pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (XFG) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and to compare vessel density (VD) results with healthy individuals.

Methods: This prospective study enrolled 120 eyes in total. The eyes were divided into 3 groups: 40 glaucomatous and 40 non-glaucomatous fellow eyes without clinically pseudoexfoliation material (XFM) of patients with asymmetric XFG, and 40 healthy eyes as controls.

Reliability and validity of the timed 360° turn test in people with Parkinson's disease.

Purpose: The objectives of this study were to examine (1) the intrarater, interrater, and test-retest reliability of the timed 360° turn test in people with Parkinson's Disease (PwPD); (2) the minimum detectable change in the timed 360° turn test times; (3) the concurrent and discriminant validity of the timed 360° turn test; (4) the cut-off times which best discriminate PwPD from healthy people and fallers from non-fallers with Parkinson's Disease (PD).

Methods: Fifty-four PwPD and 32 healthy people were included. The timed 360° turn test was administered along with Timed Up and Go Test, Berg Balance Scale, Four Square Step Test, Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, and Hoehn and Yahr Scale.

The foremost among these is the threat posed by oxidative stress, which arises from an imbalance in reactive oxygen species and can elicit damage to cellular lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. In mice, the risk of oxidative damage to spermatozoa is mitigated through the expression and secretion of glutathione peroxidase 5 (GPX5) as a major luminal scavenger in the proximal caput epididymidal segment.
