New Onset Absence Status Epilepticus in Pregnancy: A Case Report.

Absence status epilepticus may occur in persons diagnosed with idiopathic/genetic epilepsy as well as in adult and elderly patients. Despite being a rare phenomenon, pregnant women with no previous history of epileptic seizures may be presented with new onset status epilepticus. In this report, we describe the case of a 22-year-old pregnant female with no prior history of seizures.

Generative Adversarial Network Based Contrast Enhancement: Synthetic Contrast Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Rationale And Objectives: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a vital tool for diagnosing neurological disorders, frequently utilising gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) to enhance resolution and specificity. However, GBCAs present certain risks, including side effects, increased costs, and repeated exposure. This study proposes an innovative approach using generative adversarial networks (GANs) for virtual contrast enhancement in brain MRI, with the aim of reducing or eliminating GBCAs, minimising associated risks, and enhancing imaging efficiency while preserving diagnostic quality.

Relationship Between Heart Rate and Perceived Stress in Intensive Care Unit Residents: Exploratory Analysis Using Fitbit Data.

Background: Intensive care unit (ICU) residents are exposed to high stress levels due to the intense nature of their work, which can impact their mental health and job performance. Heart rate measured through wearable devices has the potential to provide insights into residents' self-reported stress and aid in developing targeted interventions.

Objective: This exploratory study aims to analyze continuous heart rate data and self-reported stress levels and stressors in ICU residents to examine correlations between physiological responses, stress levels, and daily stressors reported.

Frailty and Loneliness in Older Adults: A Narrative Review.

(1) Background: In a society with an advancing aging rate, medical systems are coming under pressure due to an increasing flow of older patients with multiple somatic diseases, exacerbated by their psychological and sociological backgrounds. We aimed to investigate the relationship between frailty and loneliness in older adults and to provide a holistic perspective on these concepts. Our research question was "Is there a link between the loneliness and frailty in older people?" (2) Methods: To assess the link between loneliness and frailty, we conducted a search accessing Index Medicus and PubMed; the timeframe of our research was from 2013 until 2023.

Comparison of Attachment Styles of Individuals with Opioid Use Disorder and Individuals with Obesity.

Objective: The aim of this study is to identify the attachment style displayed by obese individuals and to compare it with the attachment style of individuals diagnosed with opioid use disorder (OUD) and a healthy control group.

Method: A total of 201 participants were included in the study, consisting of 66 individuals diagnosed with obesity, 62 diagnosed with OUD and 73 healthy controls. Sociodemographic Data Form and Adult Attachment Style Scale were administered to all participants, the Addiction Profile Index (API) was administered to participants diagnosed with OUD and the Yale Food Addiction Scale was administered to those diagnosed with obesity.

A Systematic Review on the Use of Consumer-Based ECG Wearables on Cardiac Health Monitoring.

This systematic review aims to summarize the consumer wearable devices used for collecting ECG signals, explore the models or algorithms employed in diagnosing and preventing heart-related diseases through ECG analysis, and discuss the challenges and future work related to adopting health monitoring using consumer wearable devices. Following the PRISMA method, we identified and reviewed 102 relevant papers from PubMed, IEEE, and Web of Science databases, covering the period from May 2013 to May 2023. This review comprehensively summarizes consumer wearable devices with ECG functions, available ECG datasets, and various algorithms for detecting cardiac diseases and monitoring long-term health.

While a key piece of physicians' work is educating their patients, people's concerns of being seen as uninformed or incompetent by physicians may lead them to think that sharing incorrect health beliefs comes with a penalty. We tested people's perceptions of patients who share incorrect information and how these perceptions vary by the reasonableness of the belief and its centrality to the patient's disease.
