A survey of the 24 Family Medicine graduates working in Somaliland demonstrates their clinical and leadership impact on the health system and their contribution to higher education. The specialists directly contribute to the health and education priorities of the government of Somaliland.

Dietary n-3 fatty acids (FAs) may reduce cardiovascular disease risk. We questioned whether acute administration of n-3 rich triglyceride (TG) emulsions could preserve cardiac function and decrease injury after ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) insult. Objective: Diabetic hypertriglyceridemia is thought to be primarily driven by increased hepatic de novo lipogenesis. However, experiments in animal models indicated that insulin deficiency should decrease hepatic de novo lipogenesis and reduce plasma triglyceride levels.

Background: Advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) have been implicated in diverse pathological settings including diabetes, inflammation and acute ischemia/reperfusion injury in the heart. AGEs interact with the receptor for AGEs (RAGE) and transduce signals through activation of MAPKs and proapoptotic pathways.
