Article Synopsis
  • Phyllodes tumors are rare breast growths that can vary in size, with "giant" ones over 10 cm, often appearing as rapidly growing lumps that alter breast shape.
  • Treating these tumors is complex; while surgical removal with clear margins is standard, more extreme cases may necessitate wider excisions or total mastectomy to reduce recurrence risk.
  • A study from March 2022 to September 2023 reviewed three giant phyllodes cases, where patients received nipple-sparing mastectomy followed by immediate reconstruction, aiming to enhance both survival outcomes and aesthetics.

Background: Despite the strict diagnostic criteria recently proposed for non-invasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like features (NIFTP), its incidence is still unknown. Employing a retrospective analysis of the follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (FVPTC), we investigated the diagnosis, prevalence and postoperative course of NIFTP.

Methods: We examined retrospectively the records of 112 patients who had undergone thyroid surgery and had a postoperative diagnosis of FVPTC at our hospital from 2010 to 2021.

To evaluate the use of a new 16F mini-screwed sheath in pediatrics in comparison to a 16F ordinary Amplatz sheath. Sixty-seven patients <18 years with renal calculi between 1 and 2 cm who was a candidate for mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-perc) between January 2019 and September 2021 were randomized by closed envelope in group A (34 patients) using new mini-screwed sheath and group B (33 patients) with ordinary mini-sheath. Patients with contraindications for percutaneous nephrolithotomy were excluded.

Patients with colorectal cancer in different stages show variable outcomes/therapeutic responses due to their distinct tumoral biomarkers and biological features. In this sense, this study aimed to explore the prognostic utility of BRAF, programmed death-1 (PD1), and its ligand (PDL1) protein signatures in colon adenocarcinoma. The selected protein markers were explored in 64 archived primary colon adenocarcinomas in relation to clinicopathological features.

Article Synopsis
  • * Conducted over seven years, the study included 64 patients who had NAC, with the silver markers successfully guiding surgery in 60 patients without complications.
  • * The findings indicate that using silver markers for tumor localization is safe, simple, cost-effective, and doesn't lead to significant pain or complications for patients.

Most of the publications about Laparoscopically harvested omental flap after skin sparing mastectomy were case reports or case series. Most of them were designed for partial breast reconstruction and were lacking long-term follow-up for cosmetic results, oncologic safety, and detailed methodology. Our study aimed at highlighting the place of this method of reconstruction with long-term oncologic safety and cosmetic outcome.

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is the standard treatment of renal stone >2 cm. Ultra-mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (UMP) had emerged in the past decade as a new technique in treating renal stones <2 cm. In this study we compared between the outcome of UMP in prone position with the outcome of UMP in modified flank free supine position (FFSP).

Objectives: Early diagnosis of cancer remains a great challenge in the field of laboratory medicine. We investigated the ability of ccf DNA and DNA integrity index (DNA II) in differentiating benign from malignant breast diseases.

Methods: Serum samples were collected from 50 patients with benign breast disease (BBD) and 50 newly diagnosed breast cancer (BC) patients, in addition to 50 control women.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetic mastopathy is a rare benign breast condition characterized by fibrous lumps, typically seen in patients with type 1 or 2 diabetes, and is often linked to hyperglycemia.
  • The diagnosis can be confusing due to similar clinical and radiographic features, making pathological confirmation crucial to rule out cancer.
  • In a reported case, diabetic fibrous mastopathy was diagnosed despite no prior history of diabetes, highlighting the need to consider this condition in the differential diagnosis of breast lumps, even in patients without known diabetes.

Background: CD10 and CD15 expression has been reported in several tumors. Whether CD10 and CD15 have a role in colorectal mucinous and signet ring adenocarcinoma (MSA) tumorigenesis is not yet known.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the role of CD10 and CD15 expression in mucinous colorectal adenoma-carcinoma sequence (ACS) and determine if there is any clinical and prognostic significance associated with their expression.

Objective: The objective of the article is to compare the results of using new screwed Amplatz sheath with results of the conventional Amplatz sheath regarding success and complications during percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Methods: 100 patients aged more than 18 years with renal calculi more than 2 cm with guy's score 1 from December 2018 till July 2020 were randomly stratified by closed envelope in group A (50 patients) with using conventional sheath and group B (50 patients) with new screwed sheath. We exclude morbid obese patients and patients with contraindication for PNL.

Background: P D-L1 is expressed in tumor cells and plays a crucial role in tumor immune escape. Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) as CD8 T cells contribute to reduced tumor growth. Few studies investigated the prognostic effect of PD-L1 and CD8 TILs in ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC).

Background: Transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ) has a dual function in breast cancer, having a tumor suppressor activity in early carcinomas while enhancing tumor metastasis in advanced breast carcinoma. Consequently, the prognostic role of TGFβ and its signaling cascade in breast cancer remain unclear.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between TβRII expression, clinic-pathological characteristics, and prognostic significance of TβRII expression in clinical stage III breast cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the outcomes of sphincter-sparing techniques combined with total mesorectal excision (TME) for treating anorectal adenocarcinoma, involving 93 patients over five years.
  • The methods included various surgical approaches such as intersphincteric resection and assessed anal function one year post-surgery using the Per Anal Examination Scoring System (PASS).
  • Results showed that while about 10.6% of patients experienced fecal incontinence, most retained normal anal tone, indicating that sphincter preservation is effective in avoiding permanent stomas and maintaining reasonable function.

Video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL) is a minimally invasive technique that gives superior surgical outcomes than open inguinal lymphadenectomy (IL) for treating lymph node metastasis in penile, vulvar, and skin cancers. This study compared surgical outcomes obtained with two different approaches of VEIL, standard VEIL and lateral VEIL (L-VEIL), in cancer patients. Sixty-two patients who underwent standard VEIL ( = 15) or L-VEIL ( = 47) for treatment of lymph node metastasis were evaluated retrospectively from three centers in Brazil, Egypt, and India.
