Nasoalveolar Molding in Lately Presented Moderate to Severe Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate Infants: Does it Add?

Alignment of the alveolar segments with early nasal cartilage tackling is the foundation upon which excellent surgical results are dependent. The purpose is to evaluate the short-term effect of triple combination of passive alveolar molding with early nasal molding augmented by controlled corrective power of lip tapping in lately presented moderate to severe unilateral complete cleft lip and palate infants. A prospective case series study was conducted in Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Ain Shams University in collaboration with Orthodontics Department, from January 2021 till June 2023, 15 infants elder than 2 months till 6 months were enrolled in the study.

Successful calcium modification of a large calcified nodule using shockwave intravascular lithotripsy in the setting of acute coronary syndrome: a case report.

Background: Calcified nodules are associated with suboptimal preparation before stenting due to challenging crossing and unsuccessful pre-dilation and calcium cracking with conventional balloons. In this scenario, we report the use of shockwave intravascular lithotripsy for the successful lesion preparation of an undilatable and challenging calcified nodule in a patient presenting with ACS.

Case Summary: We report a case of a 79-year-old male patient presented with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction.

Apocynin alleviates thioacetamide-induced acute liver injury: Role of NOX1/NOX4/NF-κB/NLRP3 pathways.

The liver has a distinctive capacity to regenerate, yet severe acute injury can be life-threatening if not treated appropriately. Inflammation and oxidative stress are central processes implicated in the pathophysiology of acute livery injury. NOX isoforms are important enzymes for ROS generation, NF-κB and NLRP3 activation, its inhibition could be vital in alleviating acute liver injury (ALI).

Investigation of keratolytic impact of synthetic bolalipids on skin penetration of a model hydrophilic permeant.

Synthetic single-chain bolalipids (SSCBs) are novel excipients in drug delivery, with potential as stabilizers or solubilizers. However, their impact on skin barrier function has not been comprehensively studied. Therefore, two SSCBs (PC-C24-PC and PC-C32-PC) were studied in aqueous systems for their impact on penetration of a model permeant into porcine skin.

Effect of a harmonic surface pressure on wave propagation over a beach.

The objective is to study the harmonic forced wave motion over a beach by a finite Fourier transform technique. The constructed approximate solution has a logarithmic singularity at the shoreline. It accounts for reflexion and local perturbations.

Adherence to diabetes quality indicators in primary care and all-cause mortality: A nationwide population-based historical cohort study.

Background: In the last three decades, much effort has been invested in measuring and improving the quality of diabetes care. We assessed the association between adherence to diabetes quality indicators and all-cause mortality in the primary care setting.

Methods: A nationwide, population-based, historical cohort study of all people aged 45-80 with pharmacologically-treated diabetes in 2005 (n = 222,235).

Design and synthesis of novel chloropyridazine hybrids as promising anticancer agents acting by apoptosis induction and PARP-1 inhibition through a molecular hybridization strategy.

Guided by the molecular hybridization principle, a novel series of 4-chloropyridazinoxyphenyl conjugates (3a-h, 4a-e, and 5) was designed and synthesized as proposed apoptotic inducers and PARP-1 inhibitors. The growth inhibition % of the designed hybrids was investigated in eleven cancer cell lines, where the anticancer activities were found to be in the following order: 4-chloropyridazinoxyphenyl-aromatic ketones hybrids (3a-h) > 4-chloropyridazinoxyphenyl-benzyloxyphenylethan-1-one hybrids (4a-e) > 4-chloropyridazinoxyphenyl-thiazolidine-2,4-dione hybrid (5). Further, the most sensitive three cancer cell lines (HNO97, FaDu, and MDA-MB-468) were selected to measure the IC values of the new hybrids.

Implications of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures among patients with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes.

Background: For the past two decades, the assessment of the quality of diabetes care has mostly relied on clinical quality indicators. These have not included Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) which provide information on outcomes deemed valuable by patients. We aimed to examine the potential utility of PROMs in type 2 diabetes care and to study the association of PROMs with patients' characteristics and clinical quality indicators.

Multiple wave scattering by submerged obstacles in an infinite channel of finite depth with surface pressure excess.

The objective is to study the combined effect of an incident wave, a surface pressure excess and a finite number of submerged obstacles, in the phenomenon of power transfer to an infinite fluid layer of finite depth. The incident wave and the surface pressure excess have the same harmonic time dependence, a fact that allows to eliminate time altogether and consider only steady-state solutions. The surface pressure excess simulates the effect of winds blowing above the water surface in oceans.

A Case of Tizanidine Withdrawal Syndrome: Features and Management in the Emergency Department.

Anxiety medications, muscle relaxants, and sleeping pills have the potential to cause complications, side effects, and withdrawal symptoms if not prescribed and managed appropriately. Tizanidine, a short-acting muscle relaxant, acts on central alpha-2-adrenergic receptors to reduce spasticity. However, abrupt withdrawal of tizanidine can lead to symptoms such as hypertension, reflex tachycardia, hypertonicity, and anxiety as a result of high adrenergic activity.

Vitamin D knowledge, awareness and practices of female students in the Southwest of Saudi Arabia: A cross-sectional study.

A Combination Therapy in a Rare Case of Adult-Onset Autoimmune Enteropathy.

Autoimmune enteropathy (AIE) is a differential diagnosis of incurable chronic diarrhea, malnutrition, and weight loss. This type of diarrhea is associated with protein enteropathy that usually affects the small intestine. Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is a viral infection that causes chickenpox and shingles. Although it is usually self-limiting, it can lead to severe complications, especially in pediatric and immunocompromised patients. VZV was first discovered as a cause of myocarditis in 1953.

The Palestinian primary ciliary dyskinesia population: first results of the diagnostic and genetic spectrum.

Background: Diagnostic testing for primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) started in 2013 in Palestine. We aimed to describe the diagnostic, genetic and clinical spectrum of the Palestinian PCD population.

Methods: Individuals with symptoms suggestive of PCD were opportunistically considered for diagnostic testing: nasal nitric oxide (nNO) measurement, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and/or PCD genetic panel or whole-exome testing.

Nonlinear Rayleigh wave propagation in a layered half-space in dual-phase-lag.

We investigate nonlinear Rayleigh wave propagation in a layered thermoelastic medium composed of a slab rigidly bonded to the surface of a half-space under prescribed external thermal boundary conditions within the dual-phase-lag theory. The heat conduction coefficient for both the slab and the matrix have a linear dependence on temperature. Our aim is to assess the effect of temperature dependence of the heat conductivity, as well as the thermal relaxation times, on the process of wave propagation in the layered medium.

Impact of nutrition counseling on anthropometry and dietary intake of multiple sclerosis patients at Kasr Alainy Multiple Sclerosis Unit, Cairo, Egypt 2019-2020: randomized controlled clinical trial.

Background: Faulty dietary habits and overnutrition are prevalent among Egyptian patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) who do not receive nutrition care as part of treatment. Thus, this study was conducted to identify the effect of nutrition counseling on the nutritional status of patients with MS. This endeavor might provide evidence for the value of counseling in such a setting and advance the integration of nutrition counseling into the routine management of patients with MS.
