Background: Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) is a prevalent pediatric orthopedic condition. Treatment options range from in situ pinning to various osteotomies, with the Modified Dunn procedure gaining significant attention over the past two decades. However, the suitability of this procedure for different SCFE subtypes and the risk of avascular necrosis (AVN), particularly in moderate and severe cases, remains controversial.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) leads to fragile bones, resulting in frequent fractures and deformities, particularly in the femur and tibia, but neck of femur (NOF) fractures are uncommon.
  • An 11-year-old boy with type IV OI sustained a NOF fracture from a minor fall and underwent surgery that involved corrective osteotomy and stabilization using an intramedullary (IM) telescoping nail, along with the Wagner technique for the NOF fracture.
  • One year post-surgery, the patient achieved good functional recovery with union of the NOF fracture and improved alignment of the femur, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Wagner technique for treatment.
