Measuring viscoelastic properties of soft tissues becomes a new biomarker in the medical diagnosis field. It can help in early diagnosis and related fields, such as minimally-invasive-surgery (MIS) applications and cell mechanics. The current work presents a tactile sensor for measuring the damping coefficient of the soft tissues.

As a simple model organism, C. elegans plays an important role in gaining insight into the relationship between bodily thrashing forces and biological effects, such as disease and aging, or physical stimuli, like touch and light. Due to their similar length scale, microfluidic chips have been extensively explored for use in various biological studies involving C.
