Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) selection for stress-prone regions has high priority for sustainable crop-livestock systems. This study assessed the genomic selection (GS) ability to predict alfalfa breeding values for drought-prone agricultural sites of Algeria, Morocco, and Argentina; managed-stress (MS) environments of Italy featuring moderate or intense drought; and one Tunisian site irrigated with moderately saline water.

This study looked at the synergistic effect of PF9 and Rm41 on the Moroccan alfalfa population () grown under symbiotic nitrogen fixation and limited phosphorus (P) availability. The experiment was conducted in a growth chamber and after two weeks of sowing, the young seedlings were inoculated with Si Rm41 alone or combined with a suspension of PF9. Then, the seedlings were submitted to limited available P (insoluble P using CaHPO) a soluble P form (KHPO) at a final concentration of 250 μmol P·plant·week.
