Derivatives of chitosan-ethyl formate polymers (Chs-EF) show promise as biologically relevant materials. The novelty of this study lies in the innovative use of Chs-EF doped with zinc oxide nanoparticles and beta-cyclodextrin, which significantly enhances the polymers' protective activities against Alternaria early blight disease in Vicia faba by improving both disease resistance and plant health. After doping Chs-EF with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) and inserting it into the beta-cyclodextrin (CD), two products emerged: Chs-EF/ZnONPs and Chs-EF/CD.

Article Synopsis
  • Power transformers are crucial in power systems, and effective protection schemes are vital for identifying and locating internal faults.
  • This paper introduces a method using conventional measuring devices to analyze various types of internal winding faults, relying on a constructed locus diagram based on measured voltages and currents.
  • The proposed scheme incorporates artificial neural networks to accurately detect deviations in transformer health and pinpoint the exact location of faults, demonstrating its effectiveness compared to existing methods.

The complement system is a fundamental part of the innate immune system that plays a key role in the battle of the human body against invading pathogens. Through its three pathways, represented by the classical, alternative, and lectin pathways, the complement system forms a tightly regulated network of soluble proteins, membrane-expressed receptors, and regulators with versatile protective and killing mechanisms. However, ingenious pathogens have developed strategies over the years to protect themselves from this complex part of the immune system.

The wide spread of plant pathogens affects the whole world, threatening national food security. Various fungi including induce the fungal disease damping-off that negatively affects plant seedlings' growth. Recently, endophytic fungi are used as safe alternatives to chemical pesticides that harm plant and human health.

Recently nanocomposites have become a super-growth inducers as well as vital antifungal agents, which enhance plant growth and suppress plant diseases. A new strategy regarding the fabrication of humic acid (H) and boron (B) conjugated FeO nanocomposites was performed. FeO NP-B and FeO NP-H were synthesized in the presence of gamma-rays (as a direct reducing agent).

The novelty of the present study is studying the ability of aqueous Ziziphus spina-christi leaves' extract (ZSCE) to produce eco-friendly and cost-effective silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) against Fusarium wilt disease. Phytochemical screening of ZSCE by HPLC showed that they contain important antimicrobial substances such as Rutin, Naringin, Myricetin, Quercetin, Kaempferol, Hesperidin, Syringeic, Eugenol, Pyrogallol, Gallic and Ferulic. Characterization methods reveal a stable Ag NPs with a crystalline structure, spherical in shape with average particle size about 11.

Background: The eggplant suffers from many biotic stresses that cause severe damage to crop production. One of the most destructive eggplant pathogens is Alternaria solani, which causes early blight disease. A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the role of fungal endophytes in protecting eggplant against early blight as well as in improving its growth performance.

Objective: Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) are currently considered as prognostic markers and therapeutic targets in many human cancers. This study aims to evaluate immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of PD-L1 in gastric cancer (GC) and explore its prognostic role in terms of association with HER2 expression, different clinico-pathological variables, in particular density and cluster designation (CD)8 positivity in tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and with patients' disease-free and overall survival (DFS, OS).

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 111 diagnosed primary GC patients who underwent surgical resection at the Gastrointestinal Surgery Center (GISC), Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University, Egypt.
