The neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) has been emerging as a novel biomarker of acute kidney injury while its value in lupus nephritis is uncertain. The aim of this study was to assess urinary NGAL levels as a marker for disease activity in patients with lupus nephritis. This study included 70 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients; 50 with active lupus nephritis (LN) and 20 without as well as 20 matched controls.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Abdel-Wahab M Lotfy"

  • - Abdel-Wahab M Lotfy's recent research has focused on the role of urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) as a potential biomarker for disease activity in lupus nephritis.
  • - In a 2018 study involving 70 systemic lupus erythematosus patients, the findings suggest that urinary NGAL levels are significantly correlated with disease activity in patients with active lupus nephritis compared to those without.
  • - The research highlights the potential of NGAL as a novel marker for monitoring disease progression in lupus nephritis, which may aid in patient management and treatment strategies.
