Aim: Crohn's disease (CD) is regarded as a wasting disease, yet there is a growing population of CD patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 35 and above. The rate of postoperative complications is relatively high in CD patients but might be even higher in CD with morbid obesity (MO).
Methods: This was a retrospective study using a prospectively maintained database of all patients undergoing Ileocolic resection for CD between 2014 and 2021 in two referral centres, comparing postoperative complication rates according to BMI.
We present a case of a woman in her 70s who arrived in the emergency department with signs of small-bowel obstruction. CT scanning revealed acute cholecystitis with a cholecystoduodenal fistula, pneumobilia and small-bowel obstruction possibly secondary to gallstone ileus although no radio-opaque gallstones were seen. The patient underwent an emergency operation and intra-operative findings revealed mechanical small-bowel obstruction of the proximal jejunum where a 4×2 x 3 cm gallstone was impacted.

This study aimed to identify a subgroup of CD patients for whom ICR could achieve durable remission.
Methods: This retrospective follow-up study analyzed 592 CD patients who underwent ICR (2013-2015) in a nationwide prospective cohort.
Background: Future clinical management would be improved by accurate and early identification of ACS patients at high CV risk. In non-valvular atrial fibrillation patients, the prognostic risk of thromboembolism has been evaluated using CHA₂DS₂-VASc scores. It has recently been shown to assess the severity of CAD and foresee patient outcomes.

We present a case of a 58-year-old woman who experienced an unlikely complication of a cryoballoon breach resulting in massive gas emboli and transient hemodynamic compromise. Gas emboli are associated with high morbidity and mortality, and early recognition is essential to successful recovery.

Of all possible sites of recurrence, peritoneal metastases are associated with worse survival. Our aim was to report the incidence of metachronous peritoneal metastases from a cohort of patients undergoing resection of obstructive colon cancer with curative intent and to identify predictive factors for metachronous peritoneal metastases.

Hemodialysis is a complex treatment for people who require frequent hospital or dialysis appointments, typically three times each week. We aim to explore the quality of life of hemodialysis patients and their complications.

This study investigated scutellarein efficacy against human colorectal cancer (CRC) and explored the possible pathway of its action. MTT assay was employed to detect scutellarein effect on HT-29, SW-480, and HCT116 cells viability.

Methods: Retrospective registry study including real-world data from the Swedish Macula Registry between 2017 and 2022. The observed number of injections and visits for bevacizumab during the first two years of treatment was used (n = 437 patients).
Stump appendicitis, a rare postoperative complication of appendicectomy, is inflammation of the remnant appendix tissue due to incomplete removal of the appendix at the index operation. Due to a past surgical history of appendicectomy, there is often a diagnostic delay. This delay can result in increased morbidity and mortality for patients.

We explored factors associated with longer postoperative hospital stays among patients in the surgical ward of a primary rural hospital in Ethiopia, where laboratory facilities for microbiological confirmation of surgical site infections were not available.
Methods: an observational study was performed for patients ≥ 18 years of age who underwent elective or emergency surgery from 22 June 2017 to 19 July 2018.
Olfactory perception is an important physiological function for human well-being and health. Loss of olfaction, or anosmia, caused by viral infections such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has received considerable attention, especially in persistent cases that take a long time to recover. This review discusses the integration of different components of the olfactory epithelium to serve as a structural and functional unit and explores how they are affected during viral infections, leading to the development of olfactory dysfunction.

The histaminergic system plays a vital role in the regulation of wakefulness, cognition, neuroinflammation, and neurogenesis that are substantially disrupted in various neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders. Histamine H3 receptor (H3R) antagonists and inverse agonists potentiate the endogenous release of brain histamine and have been shown to enhance cognitive abilities in animal models of several brain disorders.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of and factors associated with past-year and current posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among adults in communities that experienced an MVI.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This cross-sectional survey was completed between February and September 2020 with a household probability sample of adults from 6 communities that had experienced an MVI between 2015 and 2019: Dayton, Ohio; El Paso, Texas; Parkland, Florida; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; San Bernadino, California; and Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Rationale/background: Hemodialysis (HD) patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) are particularly prone to constipation, which has become a growing public health issue. Nutritional therapy, such as fiber intake, significantly influences the management of constipation. In Saudi Arabia, there is limited data on fiber consumption and its correlation with constipation management in HD patients.
