Background: To evaluate the significance of increased of intraoperative parathyroid hormone(IOPTH) 10 min after parathyroidectomy in primary hyperparathyroidism.

Methods: All patients underwent parathyroidectomy were retrospectively included. Following the results of IOPTH, three groups were defined: Group 1: increased of IOPTH, Group 2: <50 % decreased of IOPTH, and Group 3: >50 % decreased of IOPTH.

Obesity has continued to emerge as a worldwide pandemic and has been associated with a significant increase in associated comorbidities. These include well-known conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, as well as lesser-known conditions such as obesity-related glomerulopathy (ORG). The main etiology of ORG is podocyte damage, but contributing theories include dysfunctional renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system activation, hyperinsulinemia and lipid deposition.

Background: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is among the most common inherited kidney diseases. Hypertension is a frequent cardiovascular manifestation, especially in adults, but elevated blood pressure is also found in children and adolescents. Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) an important form of a thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) that can frequently lead to acute kidney injury (AKI). An important subset of aHUS is the anti-factor H associated aHUS. This variant of aHUS can occur due to deletion of the complement factor H genes, and , along with the presence of anti-factor H antibodies.

Objective: To validate the Martini staging system for postoperative rectourethral fistula (RUF) utilizing data from previous studies to determine whether it can accurately predict postoperative success rate.

Methods: A systematic search of peer-reviewed studies was conducted through January, 2020. The primary inclusion criteria for the studies were studies that evaluated outcomes based on the etiology of the fistula (ie, radiotherapy/ablation [RA] vs nonradiotherapy/ablation [NRA]).

Purpose: Redo thyroid surgery is associated with higher risk of hematoma than the initial thyroid surgery. We report a single surgeon's experience of performing redo thyroid surgery without drains.

Methods: This retrospective single-institutional study evaluates the safety and efficiency of redo thyroid surgery without drains by comparing three groups of patients: those who underwent primary bilateral thyroidectomy (Group 1), those who underwent completion thyroidectomy (Group 2); and those who underwent thyroidectomy for recurrent thyroid diseases (Group 3).

High-resolution sonography is becoming a method of choice for the detection and diagnosis of cervical lymph node metastasis in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The purpose of this study is to assess the diagnostic accuracy of neck ultrasound (US) in the detection of lymph node metastases from PTC. Data for all patients with papillary thyroid cancers and preoperative neck US were reviewed retrospectively.

The main purpose of this study was to compare in vitro pharmacological properties of human αCGRP (CGRP) and a recently discovered metabolically stable CGRP analogue, SAX, in isolated rat and human artery segments. In rat, CGRP and SAX induced similar vasodilatory responses in isolated mesenteric artery with the potency of SAX being lower than that of CGRP (vasodilatory pEC 8.2 ± 0.

Papillary carcinoma accounts for 85% of differentiated thyroid cancers. We witness a yearly increased incidence and this is may be, in part, due to the increasing use of neck ultrasonography. Certain histologic subtypes of papillary carcinoma have a worse prognosis related to vascular invasion, invasion into extrathyroidal tissues, extensive tumor necrosis and/or mitoses.
