Thymomas are rare, malignant, epithelial tumors of the thymus gland. Extrathoracic metastasis of thymoma is exceedingly rare, particularly when isolated to the liver. We report an 89-year-old man who presented with urinary retention.

Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty: What is the optimal alignment correction to achieve success? The role of kinematic alignment.

Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is in many ways the ultimate kinematic operation, as the express aim is to resurface the diseased side of the joint and restore pre-arthritic alignment and balance while maintaining integrity of both cruciate ligaments. An increasing body of knowledge relates the outcomes of UKA to pre-arthritic anatomy rather than an arbitrarily defined neutral. The Coronal Plane Alignment of the Knee (CPAK) classification provides a validated technique for calculating pre-arthritic limb alignment (the arithmetic hip-knee-ankle angle (aHKA)) and joint line obliquity (JLO) and will enable a greater understanding of the interactions between pre-arthritic anatomy, choice of prosthetic position and outcomes.

However, to date, TMDCs synthesis typically relies on large area CVD growth and lithographic post-processing for nanodevice fabrication, thus relying heavily on complex, capital intensive, vacuum-based processing environments and fabrication tools. Solution-Based Synthesis of Few-Layer WS Large Area Continuous Films for Electronic Applications.

Unlike MoS ultra-thin films, where solution-based single source precursor synthesis for electronic applications has been widely studied, growing uniform and large area few-layer WS films using this approach has been more challenging. Here, we report a method for growth of few-layer WS that results in continuous and uniform films over centimetre scale. The method is based on the thermolysis of spin coated ammonium tetrathiotungstate ((NH)WS) films by two-step high temperature annealing without additional sulphurization.

WhatsApp Mobile Health Platform to Support Fracture Management by Non-Specialists in South Africa.

Background: Traumatic fractures are common in sub-Saharan Africa, a region with a shortfall of orthopaedic surgeons, and can result in morbidity if not appropriately managed. WhatsApp is an encrypted smartphone application and ubiquitous in sub-Saharan Africa. The objective of this study was to assess the use of WhatsApp as a mobile health platform to support fracture management by non-orthopaedic doctors in Cape Town, South Africa.

Correlation of securin and Ki67 in invasive breast carcinoma.

Aims: To identify the role of securin (PTTG) as a prognostic marker in invasive breast carcinoma and its possible relation to ki67 and to evaluate the use of ImmunoRatio® as a tool for calculating ki67 and securin labelling indices.

Methods: Securin and ki67 immunohistochemical staining were performed on tissue microarray sections representative of 118 patients diagnosed with invasive breast carcinoma from 2005 to 2011. Assessment of immunohistochemical staining was carried out using both visual counting and ImmunoRatio®.

A multicenter, phase II study of the RAF-kinase inhibitor sorafenib in patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma.

The treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has advanced significantly over the last two decades. This multicenter study was designed with the primary objective to evaluate the efficacy and safety of sorafenib as first-line treatment in patients with advanced or metastatic RCC in the Middle East, who were considered to be ineligible for other approved first-line therapies. A total of 75 eligible patients from 8 centers in the Middle East were included in this study.

MR-compatible RF ablation system for online treatment monitoring using MR thermometry.

RF ablation (RFA) is used for thermal ablation of tumors in which the RF electrode is placed in the tissue under image-guidance. Because of the good tumor visibility and the lack of ionizing radiation, MR-guided RFA is the method of choice. Additionally, with the help of MR thermometry the RF ablation can be monitored during the intervention.

Randomized study of concurrent carboplatin, paclitaxel, and radiotherapy with or without prior induction chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

Background: Multiple concepts of combined modality therapy for locally advanced inoperable non-small cell lung cancer have been investigated. These include induction chemotherapy, concomitant chemo-radiotherapy, and radiation only. To date, combined modality therapy specially the use of concomitant chemo-radiotherapy has led to promising results and was shown to be superior to radiotherapy alone in phase II studies.
