HLA class I and class II alleles and haplotypes of Algerian population from Algiers and neighbouring area.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the current genetic diversity and provide additional insights into the origins of the Algerian population by analyzing the frequencies of HLA -A,-B,-DRB1,-DQB1 alleles and associated haplotypes. We analyzed 1,082 unrelated healthy Algerian individuals, who were potential kidney donors, recruited and assessed in the Immunology Department of CHU Mustapha in Algiers over a 10-year period (2009-2019). HLA genotyping was performed by Polymerase Chain Reaction Sequence Specific Primers (PCR-SSP).

Background: The Jordanian healthcare system has evolved over the past decades expanding its services, technological, and educational resources. A comprehensive view of this system is lacking. The objective of this report is to describe the structure of the Jordanian healthcare system, the challenges facing it, and the current and recommended health policies.

Autopsy examination is an invaluable tool to understand the pathogenesis of emerging infections and their consequent mortalities. The aim of the current study was to present the lung and heart pathological findings of COVID-19-positive autopsies performed in Jordan.

Athletes competing in Taekwondo (TKD), the weight-category sport, tend to rapidly lose weight to achieve the desired body weight for better competitive results. Little is known about the effect of rapid weight reduction on bone mass density (BMD), especially during childhood and adolescence. The current study aimed to investigate the impact of rapid weight loss on BMD among cadets and juniors TKD athletes.

Recurrent Cholangitis Secondary to a Traumatic Biliary Neuroma.

Biliary amputation neuroma is rare and difficult to diagnose preoperatively due to diversity of clinical presentation and a lack of awareness among healthcare providers. We present a case of biliary neuroma arising from a recent laparoscopic cholecystectomy, complicated by bile leak and recurrent cholangitis. An extensive review of the literature was performed, closely examining related etiology, trends in age, clinical symptomology, and time to presentation.

Efficacy of DNA Vaccines in Protecting Rainbow Trout against VHS and IHN under Intensive Farming Conditions.

Despite the negative impact of viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS) and infectious hematopoietic necrosis (IHN) on European rainbow trout farming, no vaccines are commercially available in Europe. DNA vaccines are protective under experimental conditions, but testing under intensive farming conditions remains uninvestigated. Two DNA vaccines encoding the glycoproteins (G) of recent Italian VHSV and IHNV isolates were developed and tested for potency and safety under experimental conditions.

Diplopia and Vision Loss Associated With Presumed Systemic Lymphohistiocytic Disease: A Case Report.

Systemic lymphohistiocytic infiltration is a rare peculiar condition that can raise the possibility of more specific entities such as autoimmune disease, drug interaction, viral or mycobacterial infection, or malignancy. A hyper-inflammatory state can ensue leading to multi-organ failure. We report the case of a 42-year-old Jordanian male with a past history of moderate Covid-19 infection presenting with binocular diplopia and acute loss of vision in the left eye.

Role of Rotifers in Betanodavirus Transmission to European Sea Bass Larvae.

Marine invertebrates such as rotifers or , frequently used for fish larvae feeding, can be a potential source of pathogens. It has been demonstrated that can act as a nervous necrosis virus (NNV)-vector to Senegalese sole larvae. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to clarify the role of rotifers in NNV transmission to sea bass larvae following an oral challenge.

Pathogenicity of Different Betanodavirus RGNNV/SJNNV Reassortant Strains in European Sea Bass.

European sea bass () is an important farmed marine species for Mediterranean aquaculture. Outbreaks of betanodavirus represent one of the main infectious threats for this species. The red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus genotype (RGNNV) is the most widely spread in Southern Europe, while the striped jack nervous necrosis virus genotype (SJNNV) has been rarely detected.

Transmission Pathways of the VNN Introduced in Croatian Marine Aquaculture.

Due to the insufficient capacity of Croatian hatcheries, marine aquaculture depends on the importation of fry from different countries in the Mediterranean basin. Importation enables a risk of spreading pathogenic agents. Viral nervous necrosis (VNN), caused by betanodavirus is devastating for the farming of European sea bass.

HIV Knowledge and Stigmatizing Attitude towards People Living with HIV/AIDS among Medical Students in Jordan.

The stigmatizing attitude towards people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) can be a major barrier to effective patient care. As future physicians, medical students represent a core group that should be targeted with focused knowledge and adequate training to provide patient care without prejudice. The aim of the current study was to examine HIV/AIDS knowledge, and the stigmatizing attitude towards PLWHA, among medical students in Jordan.

The gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) is a marine fish of great importance for Mediterranean aquaculture. This species has long been considered resistant to Nervous Necrosis Virus (NNV), an RNA virus that causes massive mortalities in several farmed fish animals. However, the recent appearance of RGNNV/SJNNV reassortant strains started to pose a serious threat to sea bream hatcheries, as it is able to infect larvae and juveniles of this species.

Assessing potential impact of 2015 American Thyroid Association guidelines on community standard practice for I-131 treatment of low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer: case study of Jordan.

Objectives: The 2015 American Thyroid Association (ATA) guidelines called for significantly more selective I therapy in patients with low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). We hypothesized that application of these guidelines would significantly reduce the I activity utilized by an academic tertiary hospital in Jordan.

Methods: All DTC patients managed at Jordan University Hospital (JUH) between 1/2009 and 6/2019 were classified according to the 2015 ATA risk category and I activity was assigned accordingly.

When a single fish species is involved, an infective aetiology is frequently suspected, with focus on viral notifiable diseases. However, other viral agents not subjected to regulation and causing mortality in common carp have been reported such as carp edema virus (CEV).
