Implementing a robust adverse event of special interest surveillance for novel oral polio vaccine type 2 rollout, Nigeria, March-July 2021.

Introduction: novel oral poliovirus vaccine type 2 (nOPV2), designed to be more genetically stable than Sabin-strain oral poliovirus vaccine type 2 (mOPV2), is a new and key component of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative's strategy to combat outbreaks of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2). The World Health Organization´s (WHO´s) emergency use listing (EUL) requires extensive safety monitoring for Adverse Event of Special Interest (AESI) in its use. We implemented AESI active surveillance to monitor the safety of the nOPV2 in Nigeria.

The challenges of insecurity on implementing vaccination campaign and its effect on measles elimination and control efforts: A case study of 2017/18 measles campaign in Borno state, Nigeria.

Unlabelled: Conflict has a negative effect on immunization outcomes leading to epidemics of measles and other vaccine preventable diseases. Borno state, located in the North-Eastern parts of the country, started experiencing insurgency since 2009 by a militant group commonly referred to as "Boko Haram", leading to displacement of numerous persons from their homes. The state government created internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps with an estimated 600,000 persons and over 100,000 children aged 9 - 59 months.

Outbreak of suspected pertussis in Kaltungo, Gombe State, Northern Nigeria, 2015: the role of sub-optimum routine immunization coverage.

Introduction: Despite the availability of vaccines, pertussis outbreaks still occur in developing countries. In December 2015 we investigated a pertussis outbreak in Kaltungo, Nigeria to identify determinants of infection and institute control measures.

Methods: We enrolled 155 cases and 310 unmatched controls.
