Development of a gum tragacanth-coated nanoparticle system for controlled release of plant extracts against Erwinia amylovora.

Fire blight, caused by Erwinia amylovora, is a significant threat to fruit crops, with limited biocontrol methods. This study aimed to develop a nanosystem using mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) loaded with a phenolic plant extract (ZP) derived from Myrtus communis, Thymus vulgaris, and Curcuma longa, and coated with natural biopolymers Gum Tragacanth (GT) and sodium alginate (SA). The MSNs were synthesized and characterized by XRD, FTIR, and TEM, exhibiting a specific surface area of about 750 m/g and an average pore diameter of 5 nm.

Both cognitive flexibility and information updating are critical components of executive function, and their impairment can have a major influence on a person's capacity to operate independently and adjust to life's problems following a TBI.

Predictors of tobacco use among pregnant women: a large-scale, retrospective study.

Objective: To investigate the predictors of smoking among pregnant women in Iran, focusing on health literacy and associated socioeconomic factors.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 103,042 pregnant women aged 18-45 years who attended healthcare centers affiliated with Mashhad University of Medical Sciences for routine prenatal and postnatal checkups between 2017 and 2020. Data were collected from the Sina Electronic Health Record System (SinaEHR), which recorded sociodemographic characteristics, medical history, and lifestyle behaviors, including tobacco use.

The first reports of FA2H-associated neurodegeneration from two unrelated Iranian families.

Background: NBIA (neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation) is a diverse collection of neurodegenerative illnesses defined by iron accumulation in the basal ganglia. The fatty acid hydroxylase-associated neurodegeneration, or FAHN, is one of the uncommon subtypes of NBIAs, associated with inherited autosomal recessive mutations in gene coding the membrane-bound fatty acid 2 hydroxylase (FA2H) enzyme.

Cases: Here, we report two cases with FAHN from two unrelated families from Iran confirmed by whole exome sequencing.

Analysing nystagmus waveforms: a computational framework.

We present a new computational approach to analyse nystagmus waveforms. Our framework is designed to fully characterise the state of the nystagmus, aid clinical diagnosis and to quantify the dynamical changes in the oscillations over time. Both linear and nonlinear analyses of time series were used to determine the regularity and complexity of a specific homogenous phenotype of nystagmus.

Induction of Apoptosis and Growth-Inhibition by Thymoquinone in ACHN and GP-293 Cell Lines in Comparable with Cis-Platinum.

Objective: In the current work, we investigated the cytotoxic and apoptotic effects of Thymoquinone (TQ), an active compound of Nigella sativa (N. sativa) and Cis-platinum, on normal renal epithelial (GP-293) and human renal adenocarcinoma cell lines (ACHN).

Background/objectives: In addition to several infectious and neoplastic cutaneous entities, plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) have been shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of multiple cutaneous inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, including those characterized histologically by an "interface dermatitis" pattern such as lupus or lichen planus (LP), but their role in lichen striatus (LS), which is also known to have this histologic inflammatory pattern, has never been studied. The objective of the study was to investigate the role of pDCs in LS.

Methods: Fifteen LS patients were found in our database and were immunohistochemically tested for pDC occurrence and activity using anti-blood-derived dendritic cell antigen-2 and anti-myxovirus resistance protein A (MxA) antibodies, respectively.

Phenomenology of the sound-induced flash illusion.

Past studies, using pairings of auditory tones and visual flashes, which were static and coincident in space but variable in time, demonstrated errors in judging the temporal patterning of the visual flashes-the sound-induced flash illusion. These errors took one of the two forms: under-reporting (sound-induced fusion) or over-reporting (sound-induced fission) of the flash numbers. Our study had three objectives: to examine the robustness of both illusions and to consider the effects of stimulus set and response bias.

Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections from 34 cases of head and neck non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (17 low-grade B-cell lymphoma, 14 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and 3 peripheral T cell lymphoma) were selected as a case group, and 10 normal lymph node sections were considered as a control group.

Congenital nystagmus is an involuntary bilateral horizontal oscillation of the eyes that develops soon after birth. Historically, inflow and outflow hypotheses have been formulated as the primary explanations for perceptual stability. Central to these hypotheses is the postulation that, following an intended eye movement, knowledge of eye position cancels the consequences of the retinal image motion. Here, we reconsider the evidence for the extra-retinal signal and discuss whether this cancellation approach is compatible with the available empirical evidence.

Manifest latent nystagmus: a case of sensori-motor switching.

Latent nystagmus (LN) and manifest latent nystagmus (MLN) are closely associated with early visual deprivation and strabismus. In both cases, the eyes oscillate horizontally in an involuntary manner and the fast phases always beat towards the attending or fixing eye. By simultaneously recording eye movements during the dichoptic viewing of dissimilar visual stimuli we present evidence that MLN offers a unique opportunity to examine the nature of sensori-motor switching.

Suitable conditions for liquid-phase microextraction using solidification of a floating drop for extraction of fat-soluble vitamins established using an orthogonal array experimental design.

A simple, rapid and efficient microextraction method for the extraction and determination of some fat-soluble vitamins (A, D2, D3) in aqueous samples was developed. For the first time orthogonal array designs (OADs) were employed to screen the liquid-phase microextraction (LPME) method in which few microliters of 1-undecanol were delivered to the surface of the aqueous sample and it was agitated for a selected time. Then sample vial was cooled by inserting it into an ice bath for 5 min.
