Purpose Of Review: Preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a critical strategy to curb new HIV infections globally. National and global targets have been set for people starting PrEP. However, global PrEP initiations fell short of UNAIDS 2020 targets, and reflection is needed on how we set and meet targets for PrEP use.

However, efforts to test have been hampered by limited reagents, limitations in the availability of swabs used for the collection of nasopharyngeal swab (NPS) specimens, limitations in personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care providers collecting the NPS specimens, and limitations in viral transport media for transporting the specimens.
