Metal carbides are considered attractive lithium-ion battery (LIB) anode materials. Their potential practical application, however, still needs nanostructure optimization to further enhance the Li-storage capacity, especially under large current densities. Herein, a nanoporous structured multi-metal carbide is designed, which is encapsulated in a 3D free-standing nanotubular graphene film (MnNiCoFe-MoC@NG).

Guyon's canal, or the ulnar tunnel, is a critical anatomical structure at the wrist that houses the ulnar nerve and artery, making it susceptible to various pathological conditions. Pathologies affecting this canal include traumatic injuries, compressive neuropathies like ulnar tunnel syndrome, and space-occupying lesions such as ganglion cysts. Ulnar tunnel syndrome, characterised by numbness, tingling, and weakness in the ulnar nerve distribution, is a prevalent condition that can severely impair hand function.

Macrophages are important mediators of immune responses with critical roles in the recognition and clearance of pathogens, as well as in the resolution of inflammation and wound healing. The neuronal guidance cue SLIT2 has been widely studied for its effects on immune cell functions, most notably directional cell migration. Recently, SLIT2 has been shown to directly enhance bacterial killing by macrophages, but the effects of SLIT2 on inflammatory activation of macrophages are less known.

Background: Left ventricular (LV) ventricular-arterial coupling (VAC) refers to the ratio of afterload (effective arterial elastance) to contractility (end-systolic elastance) as an integrated marker of cardiac performance. We sought to determine whether the echocardiographic VAC ratio, defined using the ratio of LV end-systolic volume (LVESV) to stroke volume (SV), predicted mortality in the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU).

Methods: Mayo Clinic CICU patients from 2007 and 2018 were included.

Free fatty acids like palmitic acid (PA) are elevated in obesity and diabetes and dysregulate monocyte and macrophage functions, contributing to enhanced inflammation in these cardiometabolic diseases. Epigenetic mechanisms regulating enhancer functions play key roles in inflammatory gene expression, but their role in PA-induced monocyte/macrophage dysfunction is unknown. We found that PA treatment altered the epigenetic landscape of enhancers and super-enhancers (SEs) in human monocytes.

Intracranial vessels develop early in embryonic life through mutual interaction and integration of aortic arches giving the carotid arteries and intrinsic longitudinal neural system forming the posterior circulation. Due to the relatively short time and faster pace of completion of development, minor absent/persistent segments may give rise to either asymptomatic anatomical variants or hemodynamically significant changes. Intracranial vessels - both anterior carotid and posterior vertebrobasilar systems - are known to have many common anatomical variations like hypoplastic segments (A1 or P1 segments of anterior or posterior cerebral arteries) and persistent carotid-vertebrobasilar anastomotic channels.

Two-dimensional organic materials are mainly constructed by using orthogonal anisotropic connectivity of covalent bonding and π-π stacking. The noncovalent connectivity between building blocks is presumed to be too delicate to stabilize the two-dimensional (2D) layers. Contrary to this assumption, we constructed graphite-like 2D layered material by utilizing pure noncovalent connectivity, i.
