Article Synopsis
  • Approximately 50% of people globally test seropositive for an unspecified infection, prompting a study to evaluate its prevalence in patients with dyspepsia at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre from January to June 2022.
  • The study enrolled 180 dyspepsia patients, finding that a significant number experienced symptoms like nausea, flatulence, frequent burping, and epigastric pain, with various risk factors such as higher BMI, smoking, and living in rural areas associated with a higher likelihood of seropositivity.
  • Ultimately, the findings suggest that the prevalence of this infection in the population is high, and those with multiple identified risk factors should undergo further medical evaluations.

T-prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL) is a rare, aggressive T-cell leukemia, and patients typically present with marked peripheral blood lymphocytosis. Approximately 15-20 % of patients may present with moderate and relative stable lymphocytosis and an indolent clinical course that can persist for a few years. However, eventually these patients go on to develop marked lymphocytosis and rapidly progressive disease.
