Camera trapping has been demonstrated to be an effective tool in surveying a suite of species, especially elusive mammals in rough terrains. The method has become increasingly common in primate surveys for both ground-dwelling and arboreal taxa in many tropical regions of the world. However, camera trapping has rarely been used to inventory primates in Vietnam, although many species are under severe threats and in critical need of surveying for improved conservation measures.

Antifouling Polymer Brushes via Oxygen-Tolerant Surface-Initiated PET-RAFT.

This work presents a new method for the synthesis of antifouling polymer brushes using surface-initiated photoinduced electron transfer-reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer polymerization with eosin Y and triethanolamine as catalysts. This method proceeds in an aqueous environment under atmospheric conditions without any prior degassing and without the use of heavy metal catalysts. The versatility of the method is shown by using three chemically different monomers: oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate, -(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide, and carboxybetaine methacrylamide.

Laparoscopic-guided versus transincisional rectus sheath block for pediatric single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A randomized controlled trial.

Purpose: The purpose of our study was to compare the effectiveness of transincisional (TI) versus laparoscopic-guided (LG) rectus sheath block (RSB) for pain control following pediatric single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC).

Methods: Forty-eight patients 10-21 years old presenting to a single institution for SILC from 2015 to 2018 were randomized to TI or LG RSB. Apart from RSB technique, perioperative care protocols were identical between groups.

Background: Home modifications provided by occupational therapists (OTs) are effective in improving daily activity performance and reducing fall risk among community-dwelling older adults. A chitosan gold nanoparticles molecularly imprinted polymer based ciprofloxacin sensor.

In this work, we present a novel study on the development of an electrochemical biomimetic sensor to detect the ciprofloxacin (CIP) antibiotic. A chitosan gold nanoparticles decorated molecularly imprinted polymer (Ch-AuMIP) was used to modify the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for preparation of the sensor. The Ch-AuMIP was characterized to understand various properties like chemical composition, morphology, roughness, and conduction using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) respectively.

Optimizing Quality of Life for Patients with Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema: A Prospective Study Combining DIEP Flap Breast Reconstruction and Lymphedema Surgery.

Background: Patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema can be treated with a simultaneous deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap, vascularized inguinal lymph node transfer, and lymphovenous anastomosis for aesthetic breast reconstruction and lymphedema in one operation.

Methods: The authors performed a comparison of prospectively followed patients who underwent free flap breast reconstruction with vascularized inguinal lymph node transfer and anastomosis to a retrospective cohort of patients who underwent free flap breast reconstruction with vascularized inguinal lymph node transfer alone.

Results: Thirty-three patients underwent DIEP flap reconstruction with vascularized inguinal lymph node transfer and lymphovenous anastomosis, and 21 received a free flap with lymph node transfer alone.

Objective: Clinicians may hesitate to advocate for autopsies out of concern for increased malpractice risk if the pathological findings at time of death differ from the clinical findings. We aimed to understand the impact of autopsy findings on malpractice claim outcomes.

Methods: Closed malpractice claims with loss dates between 1995 and 2015 involving death related to inpatient care at 3 Harvard Medical School hospitals were extracted from a captive malpractice insurer's database.

Parental satisfaction with quality of neonatal care in different level hospitals: evidence from Vietnam.

Background: Most health systems provide the most specialized, and presumably also the highest quality of care at a central level. This study assessed parental satisfaction and its determinants in the context of neonatal care in a provincial as well as a national hospital of Vietnam.

Methods: In this cross-sectional quantitative study, parents of 340 preterm infants admitted to neonatal care units of a national and a provincial hospital in 2018 were interviewed using structured questionnaires.

Background: Sensory gating is a process in which the brain's response to irrelevant and repetitive stimuli is inhibited. The sensory gating deficit in schizophrenia (SZ) is typically measured by the ratio or difference score of the P50 event-related potential (ERP) amplitudes in response to a paired click paradigm. While the P50 gating effect has usually been measured in relation to the peak amplitude of the S1 and S2 P50 ERPs, there is increasing evidence that inhibitory processes may be reflected by evoked or induced oscillatory activity during the inter-click interval in the beta (20-30 Hz) and gamma (30-50 Hz) frequency bands.

Is genital tract infection related to tubal diseases in infertile Vietnamese women?

Introduction: The goal of this study was to identify the profile of genital tract infections and their relationship with clinical and demographic parameters as well as tubal diseases among infertile women in Vietnam.

Methodology: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, we enrolled 597 women undergoing infertility treatment at the Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hue University Hospital, Vietnam. All of the study participants were interviewed and examined by a gynecologist.

Comparison of melphalan- And busulfan-based myeloablative conditioning in children undergoing allogeneic transplantation for acute myeloid leukemia or myelodysplasia.

Background: The optimal conditioning regimen for alloHCT in children with myeloid malignancies remains undefined.

Procedure: We performed a retrospective review of children undergoing alloHCT for AML and MDS over a 10-year period (2008-2018) at our institution, comparing the outcomes of recipients of either a myeloablative busulfan- or reduced toxicity mel/thio-based conditioning regimen.

Results: A total of 49 patients underwent alloHCT for AML/MDS (mel/thio, N = 21; busulfan, N = 28).

Glioblastoma (GBM) responses to bevacizumab are invariably transient with acquired resistance. We profiled paired patient specimens and bevacizumab-resistant xenograft models pre- and post-resistance toward the primary goal of identifying regulators whose targeting could prolong the therapeutic window, and the secondary goal of identifying biomarkers of therapeutic window closure. Bevacizumab-resistant patient specimens and xenografts exhibited decreased vessel density and increased hypoxia versus pre-resistance, suggesting that resistance occurs despite effective therapeutic devascularization.
