Atlantic sturgeon ( ssp. ) has been a food resource in North America for millennia. However, industrial-scale fishing activities following the establishment of European colonies led to multiple collapses of sturgeon stocks, driving populations such as those in the Chesapeake area close to extinction.

[Mechanism of Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma in regulating PI3K/Akt/mTORC1-mitochondrial energy metabolism to treat chronic renal failure in rats with blood stasis syndrome].

This study observed the effects of Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma on the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt)/mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1(mTORC1) signaling pathway and mitochondrial energy metabolism in the rat model of adriamycin-induced renal fibrosis with blood stasis syndrome to explore the mechanism of Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma in protecting the kidney. Thirty male rats with adriamycin-induced renal fibrosis were randomized into model, low-, medium-, and high-dose Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma, and positive control groups(n=6). Six clean SD male rats were selected into the normal group.

The history of Coast Salish "woolly dogs" revealed by ancient genomics and Indigenous Knowledge.

Ancestral Coast Salish societies in the Pacific Northwest kept long-haired "woolly dogs" that were bred and cared for over millennia. However, the dog wool-weaving tradition declined during the 19th century, and the population was lost. In this study, we analyzed genomic and isotopic data from a preserved woolly dog pelt from "Mutton," collected in 1859.

Limited historical admixture between European wildcats and domestic cats.

Domestic cats were derived from the Near Eastern wildcat (Felis lybica), after which they dispersed with people into Europe. As they did so, it is possible that they interbred with the indigenous population of European wildcats (Felis silvestris). Gene flow between incoming domestic animals and closely related indigenous wild species has been previously demonstrated in other taxa, including pigs, sheep, goats, bees, chickens, and cattle.

Influence of preoperative body mass index on prognosis for patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma treated with radical nephroureterectomy.

Purpose: The impact of body mass index (BMI) on patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) undergoing radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) is controversial. Increasing evidence suggests an age-dependent relationship between obesity and outcomes for some solid organ tumors. Herein, we aimed to assess the prognostic value of preoperative BMI in UTUC patients treated with RNU in Taiwan.

Beneficial effect of repeated participation in breast cancer screening upon survival.

Objectives: The benefit of mammography screening in reducing population mortality from breast cancer is well established. In this paper, we estimate the effect of repeated participation at scheduled screens on case survival.

Methods: We analysed incidence and survival data on 37,079 women from nine Swedish counties who had at least one to five invitation(s) to screening prior to diagnosis, and were diagnosed with breast cancer between 1992 and 2016.

This Asia-Pacific (AP) AMS 800™ artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) consensus statement aims to provide a set of practical recommendations to assist surgeons with the AMS 800 device surgery. The AP consensus committee consisted of key opinion leaders with extensive experience with AMS 800 surgery across several AP countries. The panel reviewed and discussed relevant findings with emphasis on locoregional and specific clinical challenges relevant to the AP region.

Combining prostate health index and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging may better predict extraprostatic extension after radical prostatectomy.

Background: In patients undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP) for prostate cancer (PCa), preoperative prediction of extraprostatic extension (EPE) can facilitate patient selection for nerve-sparing procedures. Since both multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) and prostate health index (PHI) have shown promise for the diagnosis and prognostication of PCa, we investigated whether a combination of mpMRI and PHI evaluations can improve the prediction of EPE after RP.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with PCa and treated with RP were prospectively enrolled between February 2017 and July 2019.

Is Robotic Superior to Laparoscopic Approach for Radical Nephroureterectomy with Bladder Cuff Excision in Treating Upper Urinary Tract Urothelial Carcinoma?

Laparoscopic nephroureterectomy (LNU) has become popular in treating upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) and an emerging trend was observed in robotic approaches. Therefore, we compared robot-assisted radical nephroureterectomy (RANU) and LNU for the treatment of UTUC. This observational and retrospective case-series study included UTUC patients who underwent LNU or RANU.

The comparison of different BCG strains in the intravesical treatment of non-muscle invasive urothelial carcinoma of urinary bladder-A real-world practice.

Background: Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) has been well recognized as the first-line intravesical therapy for high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Oncotice, the Tice strain of BCG, serves as a viable alternative to the Connaught strain owing to the worldwide shortage of the latter. We retrospectively compared these two strains in terms of efficacy and adverse effects (AE) in patients who underwent at least one maintenance course after induction.

Breast cancers originating from the terminal ductal lobular units: In situ and invasive acinar adenocarcinoma of the breast, AAB.

Purpose: To use mammographic tumour features (imaging biomarkers) to identify and investigate breast cancers originating from the terminal ductal lobular units (TDLUs) of the breast in order to overcome the confusion arising from the current histopathology terminology, which calls cancers arising from the TDLUs either "ductal" or "lobular".

Method: Prospectively collected data from a randomized controlled mammography screening trial with more than four decades of follow up, and data from the subsequent population-based service screening program in Dalarna County, Sweden, provided the database necessary for studying nonpalpable, primarily screen-detected breast cancer cases in their earliest detectable phases. Large format thick (subgross) and thin section histopathologic images of breast cancers originating from the TDLUs were correlated with their mammographic tumour features (imaging biomarkers) and long-term patient outcome.

Risk factors for pharmacotherapy for storage symptoms after transurethral resection of the prostate in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Objectives: Postoperative persistence of storage symptoms after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is bothersome, and evidence of its cause is sparse. We sought to analyze risk factors for using antimuscarinics or beta-3 agonists after TURP in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients.

Methods: BPH patients who underwent TURP and were followed up for >6 months after surgery were retrospectively enrolled.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the association of asymptomatic pyuria before ureterorenoscopic lithotripsy (URSL) with postoperative febrile urinary tract infection (UTI).

Methods: This observational case-control study identified the patients undergoing URSL for ureteral stones between May 2011 and October 2015. The included patients were classified into two groups: the asymptomatic pyuria group (6-50 white blood cells [WBCs]/high-power field [HPF]) and the non-pyuria group (≤ 5 WBCs/HPF).

Background: Among female patients with lower urinary tract symptoms, detrusor underactivity (DU), and detrusor overactivity-with-detrusor underactivity (DO-DU) are two common diagnoses. Here, we investigated the correlations between bladder wall thickness (BWT) and clinical manifestations of the two diagnoses.

We present APAC-Net, an alternating population and agent control neural network for solving stochastic mean-field games (MFGs). Our algorithm is geared toward high-dimensional instances of MFGs that are not approachable with existing solution methods. We achieve this in two steps.

The mitochondrial genome of , strain RCEF500, was sequenced on the NovaSeq 6000 and the Nanopore Sequencer, and annotated. The genome is 59,014 bp in length, encoding 15 conserved protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNA genes and 23 tRNA genes. The nucleotide composition of mitochondrial genome was 38.

Origins and genetic legacy of prehistoric dogs.

Dogs were the first domestic animal, but little is known about their population history and to what extent it was linked to humans. We sequenced 27 ancient dog genomes and found that all dogs share a common ancestry distinct from present-day wolves, with limited gene flow from wolves since domestication but substantial dog-to-wolf gene flow. By 11,000 years ago, at least five major ancestry lineages had diversified, demonstrating a deep genetic history of dogs during the Paleolithic.

Effectiveness of antimuscarinics and a beta-3 adrenoceptor agonist in patients with overactive bladder in a real-world setting.

Both antimuscarinics and beta-3 adrenoceptor agonists are generally used as first-line pharmacotherapy for overactive bladder (OAB). This study aimed to investigate the differences in clinical characteristics and manifestations between different medication groups using real-world data. In this retrospective study, we recruited all patients aged > 18 years diagnosed with OAB at our institute from March 2010 to December 2017.

Clinical guidelines for interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome.

The clinical guidelines for interstitial cystitis and related symptomatic conditions were revised by updating our previous guidelines. The current guidelines define interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome as a condition with chronic pelvic pain, pressure or discomfort perceived to be related to the urinary bladder accompanied by other urinary symptoms, such as persistent urge to void or urinary frequency in the absence of confusable diseases. The characteristic symptom complex is collectively referred as hypersensitive bladder symptoms.

Imaging active faulting in the western Taiwan Strait.

Large, destructive historical earthquakes off the coast of China's Fujian Province point to important tectonic activity in the western Taiwan Strait that, until recently, has received little attention. We present newly acquired reflection seismic data that is used to study the shallow crustal structure of the western Taiwan Strait. With these data we map the location of the Benhai fault for the first time, describe its upper crustal geometry and, in combination with seismicity and earthquake focal mechanisms, interpret its kinematics.
