Dechloranes and chlorinated paraffins in sediments and biota of two subarctic lakes.

Our understanding of the environmental behavior, bioaccumulation and concentrations of chlorinated paraffins (CPs) and Dechloranes (Dec) in the Arctic environment is still limited, particularly in freshwater ecosystems. In this descriptive study, short chain (SCCPs) and medium chain (MCCPs) CPs, Dechlorane Plus (DP) and analogues, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were measured in sediments, benthic organisms, three-spined stickleback (), Arctic char () and brown trout () in two Sub-Arctic lakes in Northern Norway. Takvannet (TA) is a remote lake, with no known local sources for organic contaminants, while Storvannet (ST) is situated in a populated area.

Increasing data exist to support the involvement of non-HLA antibodies in triggering an immunological response. The development of non-HLA antibodies specific for ATR is associated with poor clinical outcomes in orthotopic heart transplant recipients.

Safety and efficacy of cathodal transcranial direct current stimulation in patients with Lennox Gastaut Syndrome: An open-label, prospective, single-center, single-blinded, pilot study.

Purpose: Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (SLG) is a severe form of childhood refractory epilepsy. Only one pilot study has been conducted using cathodal transcranial direct current stimulation (c-tDCs; 2mAx30minx5days) in LGS with promising results (-99% seizure reduction at 5 days). Our aim was to explore and replicate the efficacy and safety of 10 daily sessions of c-tDCs in SLG.

This paper describes parent outreach in the Sustainability via Active Garden Education (SAGE) study. Newsletters were sent home with children to promote family opportunities to increase physical activity and fruit and vegetable intake.

Stem cells and repair of necrosis after dermolipectomy: a case study.

Skin ulcers secondary to necrosis post-dermolipectomy occur infrequently. Despite their rarity and because of their complex pathopathophysiological nature, their resolution is a major challenge for plastic surgeons. This study is to recognise the safety and efficiency of use of CD34 stem cells (SC), obtained from the patient's bone marrow, within a solid autologous fibrin scaffold in the case of female patient with an ulcer with torpid evolution as a result of an abdominal dermolipectomy.

Building hybridized 28-baseline pupil-remapping photonic interferometers for future high-resolution imaging.

One key advantage of single-mode photonic technologies for interferometric use is their ability to easily scale to an ever-increasing number of inputs without a major increase in the overall device size, compared to traditional bulk optics. This is particularly important for the upcoming extremely large telescope (ELT) generation of telescopes currently under construction. We demonstrate the fabrication and characterization of a hybridized photonic interferometer, with eight simultaneous inputs, forming 28 baselines, which is the largest amount to date, to the best of our knowledge.

Scalable photonic-based nulling interferometry with the dispersed multi-baseline GLINT instrument.

Characterisation of exoplanets is key to understanding their formation, composition and potential for life. Nulling interferometry, combined with extreme adaptive optics, is among the most promising techniques to advance this goal. We present an integrated-optic nuller whose design is directly scalable to future science-ready interferometric nullers: the Guided-Light Interferometric Nulling Technology, deployed at the Subaru Telescope.

PD-L1 Positivity Associated With Presence of Tertiary Lymphoid Structures and High-Stage Disease in Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma.

Objectives: Persistent antigen exposure leads to the accumulation of lymphocytes and subsequent tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS). We investigated the relationship of tumor microenvironment (TME) with respect to programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), its receptor programmed death 1 (PD-1), and TLS in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) cases and compared them with UTUC associated with urothelial bladder carcinoma (UTUC-BCa).

Methods: We retrospectively identified 72 patients with UTUC.

Alkali-free borosilicate glasses are one of the most used dielectric platforms for ultrafast laser inscribed integrated photonics. Femtosecond laser written waveguides in commercial Corning Eagle 2000, Corning Eagle XG and Schott AF32 glasses were analyzed. They were studied in depth to disclose the dynamics of waveguide formation.

Background And Objective: Analysis of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) in tumour samples is necessary to identify candidates for anti-PD-L1/PD-L1 therapy. Because PD-L1 is evaluated by immunohistochemistry (IHC), an adequate amount of tumour tissue is a prerequisite for PD-L1 testing. To examine whether pleural fluid might be an alternative to biopsy/resection specimens for IHC evaluation of PD-L1 in patients with non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), we compared PD-L1 by IHC between histological specimens and matched pleural fluid.

Towards a photonic mid-infrared nulling interferometer in chalcogenide glass.

Nulling interferometry enables astronomers to advance beyond the resolving power of ground-based telescopes with the goal of directly detecting exo-planets. By diminishing the overwhelming emission of the host star through destructive interference, radiation from young companions can be observed. The atmospheric transmission window centered around 4 μm wavelength is of particular interest because it has a favorable contrast between star and planet as well as a reduced atmospheric disturbance.

PD-L1 Expression Reveals Significant Association With Squamous Differentiation in Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma.

Objectives: Limited literature is available on the tumor microenvironment (TM) of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). This study comprehensively reviews programmed death 1 receptor (PD-1)-positive and CD8+ tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression on tumor epithelium (TE).

Methods: Seventy-two nephroureterectomy specimens were analyzed for PD-L1, PD-1, and CD8.

Design and methodology of a cluster-randomized trial in early care and education centers to meet physical activity guidelines: Sustainability via Active Garden Education (SAGE).

Strategies are needed to help early care and education centers (ECEC) comply with policies to meet daily physical activity and fruit and vegetable guidelines for young children. This manuscript describes the design and methodology of Sustainability via Active Garden Education (SAGE), a 12-session cluster-randomized controlled crossover design trial using community-based participatory research (CBPR) to test a garden-based ECEC physical activity and fruit and vegetables promotion intervention for young children aged 3-5 years in 20 sites. The SAGE curriculum uses the plant lifecycle as a metaphor for human development.

The use of cytological material in melanoma for programmed death ligand 1 immunostaining.

Objective: Interest in immune therapies has exploded since the 2014 approval of first-generation programmed cell death 1 blocking antibodies for use in advanced melanoma. Clinical trials have focused primarily on histological material as the gold standard for evaluating programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) by immunoperoxidase (IPOX) studies. Studies validating the use of cytological specimens in the assessment of PD-L1 by IPOX staining are needed to optimise tissue utilisation in complementary diagnostic testing.

Novel concept for visible and near infrared spectro-interferometry: laser-written layered arrayed waveguide gratings.

With the growing complexity of astronomical instruments devoted to interferometry, such as MATISSE (a 4 telescope beam combiner) or FIRST (a 9 sub-apertures beam combiner), and the rebirth of space projects such as LIFE (a mid-infrared interferometer), integrated optics devices can be an interesting and complementary approach for beam combination of a large number of apertures. Moreover, one of the approaches for beam combination is pairwise combination of the inputs (either from individual telescopes or from aperture masking on a single telescope), which scales as N(N-1)/2 for an N input system. Astrophotonics devices are attractive to reduce mass and system complexity, while achieving all the beam combination in a single chip, even for a high number of inputs.
