Mathematical models can be used to generate high-fidelity simulations of the cardiopulmonary system. Such models, when applied to real patients, can provide valuable insights into underlying physiological processes that are hard for clinicians to observe directly. In this work, we propose a novel modelling strategy capable of generating scenario-specific cardiopulmonary simulations to replicate the vital physiological signals clinicians use to determine the state of a patient.

The EU-ToxRisk project (2016-2021) was a large European project working towards shifting toxicological testing away from animal tests, towards a toxicological assessment based on comprehensive mechanistic understanding of cause-consequence relationships of chemical adverse effects. More than 40 partners from scientific institutions, industry and regulators coordinated their work towards this goal in a six-year long programme. The breadth and variety of data and knowledge generated, presented a challenging data management landscape.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to find optimal gantry, collimator, and couch angles for performing single isocenter, multiple target stereotactic radiosurgery (SIMT-SRS). Nineteen angle sets were tested across seven linear accelerators for radiation-isocenter coincidence and off-isocenter coincidence. The off-isocenter Winston-Lutz test was performed to evaluate the accuracy of isocenter alignment for each angle set, and optimal angle sets as well as maximum off-isocenter distance to target for each angle set was determined.

Huntington's disease (HD) is an inherited and ultimately fatal neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expanded polyglutamine-encoding CAG repeat within exon 1 of the huntingtin (HTT) gene, which produces a mutant protein that destroys striatal and cortical neurons. Importantly, a critical event in the pathogenesis of HD is the proteolytic cleavage of the mutant HTT protein by caspase-6, which generates fragments of the N-terminal domain of the protein that form highly toxic aggregates. Given the role that proteolysis of the mutant HTT protein plays in HD, strategies for preventing this process hold potential for treating the disorder.
