Elimination of cholesterol from physiological fluids was carried out by means of affinity chromatography using digitonine as an affinity agent. For this purpose a method of covalent binding of digitonine with aminosylochrome was developed. The most suitable conditions for production of the stable sorbent specific for cholesterol are described.

No significant changes were recorded in the content of adrenalin or noradrenalin in the motor cortex, hippocampus, amygdala, thalamus, hypothalamus, mesencephalic reticular formation and caudate nucleus an hour after rabbits received a single injection of lithium hydroxybutyrate. The content of dopamine in the caudate nucleus rose, while that in the thalamus, hippocampus and mesencephalic brain formation concurrently dropped down.

Intravenous administration of 10 mg/kg of lithium hydroxybutyrate to rabbits exerts a depressant effect on spontaneous bioelectrical activity of the cortex and subcortical structures of the brain, with this effect distributing from the cortex to the subcortex. The drug reduces the electrical excitation of the motor cortex, caudate nucleus, thalamus, posterior hypothalamus and reticular formation of the midbrain. The convulsive threshold of the amygdaloid complex decreases.

Lithium oxybutyrate microinjections (10 mg/ml) produce a depressant action on spontaneous bioelectrical activity of the cortex and subcortical structure. The drug brings down excitability of the motor cortex, hippocampus, caudate nucleus, thalamus, posterior hypothalamus and mesencephalic reticular formation; it also raises excitability of the tonsils. The depressant effect of lithium oxybutyrate is superior to that of lithium chloride.
