The rats of K-M line with high level of convulsive readiness to sound stimuli were tested. It was established that systemic application of epileptogenic stimulus evoked the decrease of level of convulsive readiness. The phenomena of habituation and normalization of animal behavior were revealed.

Inwardly rectifying potassium (K+) channels (IRK1) were incorporated into lipid bilayers to test the relative contributions of various mechanisms to inward rectification. IRK1 channels were expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes and oocyte membrane vesicles containing the channels were fused with lipid bilayers. The major properties of the IRK1 channel were similar whether measured in the oocyte membrane or lipid bilayer; the single channel conductance was 21 pS in 140 mM symmetrical [K+] and varied as a square root of external [K+].

The urgent porto-system bypass has been used in 26 children with portal hypertension to prevent acute gastro-esophageal bleeding. This method may be used in all types of portal circulation blockade. The bleeding stopped within first two postoperative days and there were no cases of its relapse within 6 years.

A scheme of fast similarity search of nucleotide sequences is suggested based on sequence imaging, which results in chunks of information much less than original sequence but more specialized for comparison. Three methods were developed using three different imaging functions. The first is based on identity of local sites of up to twelve nucleotides, the second is based on statistical homology of local 42 nucleotide fragments, and the third is based on the homology of 100-150 nucleotide fragments and models the comparison of restriction maps.

An echocardiographic study of right ventricular myocardial contractility in 123 patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis (COB) confirmed the suggestion that in COB patients symptoms of right ventricular failure (cyanosis, acrocyanosis, crural edema, dilated liver) may have extracardiac origin. In echocardiographic diagnosis of right ventricular failure one should measure the speed of the anterior wall movements in the systole, diastole and ejection fraction.

Intraoperative examinations of 15 patients with extrahepatic portal hypertension carried out to elucidate the effect of pituitrin infusion on the central and portal hemodynamics and analysis of the clinical results of treatment of gastroesophageal hemorrhages with pituitrin infusions in 17 patients showed that infusions of pituitrin solution were sufficiently effective in this patient population. The drug exerted the minimal effect on the central hemodynamics and appreciably improved the portal pressure and bloodflow.

Electrical activity of the cerebral cortex and lateral hypothalamus was recorded in 2 groups of alcoholized rats 1) in motivation state induced by one-day alcohol deprivation and 2) after long-lasting free consumption of alcohol. Non-alcoholized rats served as the control. Neocortical and hypothalamic EEG in non-deprived rats with pronounced attraction to alcohol consumption did not differ from the control.

Central hemodynamics, blood gas composition, portal blood flow, and hepatic function have been studied in 30 children with extrahepatic portal hypertension during various types of intraoperative anesthesia. Neuroleptanalgesia and combined halothane and calypsol anesthesia ensure an adequate patient protection from surgical trauma. Each type of anesthesia has its specific effect on portal blood flow.

As a result of 10-year investigations a concept of postpneumonectomy syndrome (PPS) has been defined as a combination of acute respiratory disturbances due to alteration of filtration and absorption functions of the lungs along with systolic and diastolic right heart dysfunction. The aim of the study was to identify the details of PPS pathogenesis dependent on the initial right chamber pressure levels and a search for probable approaches to PPS correction. The study was carried out on 26 patients subject to pneumonectomy.

The authors followed up clinical and psychological characteristics obtained for 85 neurotic patients taking group psychotherapy. As a result of the study prognostically favourable clinical features have been established: initial stages of the disease, prevalent phobic and somatic-vegetative disorders, sensitive accentuation of the temperament. Among the unfavourable parameters are the neurotic stage and hypochondria.

In a representative sample of boys aged 14-15 daily diet compositions have been modeled followed by 2-year preventive correction of expected atherogenic shifts in the above boys' nutrition. The correction did not imply changes in daily diet overall caloric value, but the intake of refined sugar was to be reduced with an increase in the intake of other carbohydrates and decrease in saturated fatty acids. The proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids in daily diets was made greater.

The authors describe the technology of preparing a new anthelmintic agent triclazan, N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-2-[(benzo-2,1,3-thiadiazole-4-sulfonyl)amino]-5- chlorobenzamide, finely dispersed (the particles size 4-8 mu). Triclazan is highly effective not only in hymenolepiasis and trichocephaliasis, as was shown previously, but in fascioliasis, monieziasis and intestinal nematodiasis of sheep as well.

Experiments were performed on unanaesthetized rabbits. It has been shown that beta-adrenergic stimulation by isoprenaline can lead to decreasing as well as increasing of spike activity of the ileum. Pretreatment with propranolol completely prevented both effects of isoprenaline.

Acute blood loss evoked an increase in the spike activity of the pyloric sphincter' smooth muscles, those of the duodenum and ileum. No such effect was found in joint blockade of alpha- and beta-adrenoreceptors. The increase in the spike activity seems to be due to an effect of endogenous catecholamines upon activating alpha- and beta-adrenoreceptors of the pyloric sphincter, duodenum and ileum.

Jb been shown that beta-adrenergic stimulation by isadrine can lead to decreasing as well increasing of spre activity of the pyloric sphincter and small intestine administration of isadrine in conditions of the blockade of M- and N-cholinoreceptors suppressed the spike activity in all the portions of the intestine. The data obtained suggest that excitatory beta-adrenoreceptors are located on the cholinergic interneurons of the enteral nervous system. The suppression of the spike activity was, evidently, due to a stimulation of postsynaptic beta-adrenoreceptors.

Fifty patients with types I and II diabetes complicated by the diabetic foot syndrome were examined. The patients were divided into two groups: Group I patients were administered x-ray therapy of the feet and shins, group 2 ones were treated by angioprotectors and antiaggregants. Complaints and objective data, findings of ultrasonic examination of the lower limb vessels and biothesiometry, x-ray picture before and 6 months after the treatment were assessed.

Methods for the biomechanical description of spatial displacements of the center of mass of quadruped animal (dog), developed by the authors on the basis of an assessment of the vertical constituents of support pressures, as well as methods for the assessment of the postural adjustment pattern (coefficient of diagonality), are presented in this paper. The results are presented of an investigation of the role of the motor cortex in the accomplishment of the postural adjustment pattern of dogs, reorganized during learning, in the performance of an instrumental movement.
