All-solid-state chloride-ion batteries promise high theoretical energy density and room-temperature operation. However, conventional Sn anodes suffer from low material utilization attributed to large particle size and volume expansion. Here, nano-sized Sn particles in an N-doped carbon framework are used as an anode, resulting in ∼12% higher capacity compared to conventional Sn, due to improved Sn utilization and suppression of volume expansion.

Flexibility has been pursued enthusiastically in the field of porous crystals for enhancing their adsorption and separation performances. However, flexibility has never been observed among porous crystals sustained thoroughly by van der Waals interactions since flexible motions readily lead to the collapse of the porous architecture. Here we report a van der Waals crystal featuring conformational flexibility as well as permanent microporosity.

Enhanced antifungal activity of siRNA-loaded anionic liposomes against the human pathogenic fungus .

We developed siRNA-loaded anionic liposomes, co-encapsulating low-dose amphotericin B, to enhance siRNA penetration through the fungal cell wall of . Targeting mRNAs of three key genes, these liposomes visibly inhibited fungal growth, demonstrating for the first time the antifungal potential of siRNA against human fungal pathogens.

Organic luminescent radicals are a new class of materials with potential applications not only in light-emitting devices but also in the biochemistry field. New tris(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)methyl (TTM) radicals with alkoxy-substituted carbazole donors were synthesized and characterized. PEG-substituted carbazole-TTM was found to be water-soluble.

Women and men differ in terms of the development and manifestation of inflammatory rheumatic diseases and outcomes as well as with respect to disease perception, health behavior and response to antirheumatic treatment. Sex-specific aspects are increasingly being researched in nearly all medical disciplines to optimize treatment strategies with the aim to improve individual treatment success. This article describes sex differences that can even now be taken into account in rheumatological care.

In the National database (NDB) of the German regional collaborative arthritis centres, annual data on the rheumatological care of patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases have been collected since 1993. This first annual report presents current cross-sectional data on medication and patient-reported outcomes gathered in 2022.

Effects of halogen atom substitution on luminescent radicals: a case study on tris(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)methyl radical-carbazole dyads.

A series of halogen-substitute carbazole TTM radicals was synthesized. The effect of halogen substituents on radical luminescence was systematically evaluated. It was found that the well-known heavy atom effect does not work in the emission of radicals and that halogen substitution of the donor carbazole can change the HOMO and alter the absorption and emission wavelengths.

Supplementary orthopaedic screening for children and adolescents to prevent permanent skeletal deformities - protocol for the "OrthoKids" study.

Background: Skeletal deformities (SD) in children and adolescents can lead to arthritic conditions, impairment of quality of life, and high treatment costs in the long term. However, comprehensive data on the prevalence of SDs in children and adolescents are limited and it remains therefore unclear whether there is a healthcare gap. "OrthoKids" is a project that addresses this evidence gap by implementing an orthopaedic screening for children and adolescents that supplements existing detection examinations within statutory standard care in Germany.

Background: Umbilical cord gases are often used to assess the impact of labor and delivery on the fetus. However, no large series exists that reflects contemporary obstetrical practice or that analyzed blood gas ranges by route of delivery. Baseline, prelabor acid-base status in the human fetus is also poorly defined, rendering the assessment of blood gas changes during labor difficult.

The national database (NDB) of the German regional collaborative rheumatology centers was switched to the RheMIT documentation software last year. Rheumatology centers that already use RheMIT for care contracts or other research projects can therefore use the software to also participate in the NDB. Experiences from a hospital, a medical care center and a specialist practice show how the changeover to RheMIT from an existing documentation system or a new participation in the NDB with RheMIT can be implemented.
