Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how effective four-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (PCC) is in reversing the anticoagulation effects of rivaroxaban during trauma-related bleeding, using a pig model with blunt liver injuries and femur fractures.
  • Researchers tested different doses of PCC, as well as combinations with tranexamic acid and fibrinogen, to see if these treatments reduced total blood loss after injury.
  • Results showed that higher doses of PCC significantly reduced blood loss compared to controls, and the combination of low-dose PCC with tranexamic acid and fibrinogen was more effective than PCC alone with tranexamic acid.

Background: Andexanet alfa (andexanet) reverses the anticoagulant effects of factor Xa inhibitors, but it has not been assessed in clinical studies for apixaban reversal in trauma. This study evaluated andexanet for reversing apixaban anticoagulation in a porcine polytrauma model.

Methods: Oral apixaban (20 mg q.

Several direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), including direct thrombin and factor Xa inhibitors, have been approved as alternatives to vitamin K antagonist anticoagulants. As with any anticoagulant, DOAC use carries a risk of bleeding. In patients with major bleeding or needing urgent surgery, reversal of DOAC anticoagulation may be required, presenting a clinical challenge.

From first-principles calculations, we predict that specific transition metal (TM) atom-adsorbed silicon nanowires have a half-metallic ground state. They are insulators for one spin direction, but show metallic properties for the opposite spin direction. At high coverage of TM atoms, ferromagnetic silicon nanowires become metallic for both spin directions with high magnetic moment and may have also significant spin polarization at the Fermi level.

This study compared the application of intramuscular recombinant hepatitis B vaccine in hemodialysis patients with the application of accelerated intradermal recombinant hepatitis B vaccine, which can be applied with one-tenth of the standard dose. Sixty seronegative patients for hepatitis B were randomly separated into two groups. Twenty mug of the recombinant hepatitis B vaccine was intramuscularly applied at 0-, 1-, 2-, and 6-month intervals to the first group (32 cases).

Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a multisystem disease characterized by recurrent polyserositis episodes seen in certain ethnic groups. In recent years the clinical picture of FMF has been expanded and severe myalgia is a frequently recognized component of the syndrome. Protracted febrile myalgia syndrome (PFMS), characterized by severe paralyzing myalgia, high fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, arthritis/arthralgia, and transient vasculitic rashes mimicking Henoch-Schonlein purpura, was first described in patients with FMF in 1994.
